'Necrotics Inbound' is a single-player Half-Life 2 Modification in which the player takes the role of "Combine Infantry #04178", as he journeys across the Half Life 2 universe, working toward the destruction of his former masters.

Story

The nightmares have plagued me for as long as I can remember, they're all I ever have to look forward to in this seemingly endless sleep. Finally, free at last, born again into this unforgiving world. The story is always the same, brought out of stasis to hunt down some poor bastard. We'll be left out until we grow weak, get injured... need some 'repairs'. When it's over, carted back to our little pods, those wondrous metallic coffins, we'll get to 'rest'. But that's fine, I'll go right along with it, being the dog that I am. It's not like I could ever do anything about it, unless...

Wait, what am I thinking?! I exist only to kill, It's what I was born to do. It's what I was made to do, and that won't change. No, something has changed, I can feel it. It's the nightmares, the horrible visions. I don't have an explanation for them, maybe they're some long lost memory. Maybe it's my conscious trying to tell me something. Whatever they are, they've found me yet again, here in the waking world.

Background

Set during the events of Half-Life 2, the player takes the role of 'Combine Infantry #04178' as he and his squad are sent to provide assistance during the attack on Black Mesa East. Encountering an enraged Dog during the invasion, he is seperated from the rest of his team after being hurled through a wall. Haunted by terrible visions, #04178' decides to head for The "Leviathan", a large combine outpost on the coast, in an effort to regroup. During his quest, he'll discover the origins of his nightmares and will see the Combine for what they really are. He ends up working with the Resistance, eventually leading him to aid the revolt taking place in City 17.

The game will be played from the viewpoint of '#04178' as he explores various areas, including:

  • Black Mesa East (Primary enemies: Headcrabs)
  • Railroad 17 (Primary enemies: Resistance Soldiers)
  • Highway 17 (Primary enemies: Antlions and Resistance soldiers)
  • Leviathan Outpost (Primary enemies: Antlions)
  • Atrum Caves (Primary enemies: Combine Soldiers)
  • Ruins of Hollowground (Primary enemies: Antlions and Headcrabs)
  • Downtown City 17 (Primary enemies: Combine Soldiers and Synth)
  • The Citadel (Primary enemies: Combine Elite Soldiers)

Interface

The HUD will be redesigned to match the Combine regular HUD, and will include new utilities such as nightvision, an internal messaging system, and oxygen reserves. It will feature one of the first 'changing motive' NPCs, with Combines originally being your allies, and becoming enemies throughout the game. At many points in the game, you will work with a team, usually of Resistance soldiers.

In addition, players will also operate Mounted Pulse Turrets on various occasions, as well as utilize other combine tech such as the APC and Headcrab Mortar.
