*Originally, Eli Vance was intended to have no relation with Alyx, but instead to be a man named Eli Maxwell, who had a scrapyard that he used as his lab rather than Black Mesa East. Alyx's father was meant to be Captain Vance, the leader of a rebel group. Both characters, however, were eventually merged to become Eli Vance.

*Eli's voice is provided by actor [[Robert Guillaume]]. While it was believed that that Eli's face and body were modeled after Bill Cobbs, the resemblance is coincidential: Eli is actually based on Larry "The Count" Heard, a local man holding a sign indicating that he was looking for work. [[Valve]] found him on the corner of Highway 520 and 148th Avenue in Redmond and hired him as a model.
