Insurgency or INS is a Half Life 2 total conversion, a multiplayer themed mod released at the start of July 2007. As the name implies it is set within the Insurgency based combat of the Iraq Conflict. Deemed by some to be a “CS” killer – INS has been widely anticipated throughout much of the HL2 community.

The basic gameplay sets the Insurgent and American teams against each other with a series of objectives. To achieve these objectives team work is stressed, ‘’“On the streets of Iraq it is not safe to be alone.”’’ Overall the sound and graphical interface are in place to simulate modern combat.

Development

The original idea for INS spawned from the mind of Andrew "Argyll" Spearin, in 2002, and while the development team lack Spearin on their current team – they still try to stay true to his vision.

The team entered a lull of Public Relations near the end of 2006 and re-entered the news in June 2007 – announcing their new site and the release date of the mod itself.

Gameplay

The gameplay revolves around Insurgents and US Forces fighting each other in Iraq for control of control points. A realistic damage system is used which makes for gun battles that rarely last longer than a few seconds.
