GoldSRC

GoldSRC is a term used internally by Valve Software to refer to their heavily modified Quake (iDTech2) engine used in Half-Life and its expansions, mods and commercial licensees (Gunman Chronicles and Nightfire).

GoldSRC is a relatively new term that emerged once Half-Life 2's engine was officially identified as Source. This is because the label was only used internally at Valve, to differentiate between the source code that had gone 'Gold' and been put into Half-Life, and the unfinished code lying around for future projects. The technology had usually been called the 'Half-Life engine' or 'a heavily modified Quake engine' prior to 2003, and often still is in the gaming press.
