The second pistol you acquire in Half-Life 2, the .357 Magnum revolver is a powerhouse. Though having a slow rate of fire and a capacity of only six rounds, the stopping power behind each shot more than makes up for it. The .357 is designed to put the maximum amount of force behind every bullet.

Description

The .357 Magnum is a carbon steel, double-action combat revolver, swing out cylinder model with six round capacity.

Use

The .357's heavy damage makes it an excellent close-quarters weapon--as long as the player doesn't miss. The gun has such heavy recoil that it takes a full second or more for it to level with the crosshair after being fired, and coupled with its low magazine count means stiff penalties for missed or ill-placed shots. In a close-quarters firefight where the player is aiming at a moving target, using the Magnum becomes a risky endeavor. Thankfully, to augment the .357's already powerful shots, its accuracy is unparalleled: the bullets will strike where the crosshair is pointing almost instantly, regardless of distance. This, combined with the HEV Mk. 5's built-in zoom feature allows the .357 Magnum revolver to double as an impromptu sniper weapon.
