Alien Grunts are organic beings that seemingley have armour built into their skeleton, contructed by Vortigaunts in the factory levels of Xen. They wield Wasp Launchers that seem to have welded into the hand structure of the Grunt. They are rarely encountered by themselves and travel in packs with Vortigaunts. Take two .357 shots to the head.
Early concepts of Half-Life had Grunts using organic chainsaws.
Interesting to note is the behaviour of Vortigaunts when together with a Alien Grunt - they run less and take time to hit their opponent.
Alien Grunts were never meant to be in Half-Life 2.
