Age of chivalry
Age of Chivalry is a Multiplayer Half-Life 2 Mod with a strict Middle Ages theme and melee
combat system concocted by Team Chivalry. AoC has recently been featured in [PC Gamer UK:http://www.pcgamer.com/] in June 2006 as well as [PC Action:http://www.pcaction.de/] in Decemeber 2006. Version 1.0 officially released 12/01/07.
Overview
An intense and cinematic style of melee combat combined with strict team orientation and story driven
map objectives. Players find themselves in a Middle Ages setting with a generous
variety of environments and scenarios ranging from fortresses to castles and
various terrains. Team-play is an essential part of game-play in completing the numerous
unique and individual objectives specific to each map. Players use a wide selection of
weapons at their disposal from swords and axes to siege towers and catapults to test their
skills and survivability with the weaponry of this game against other players.
Gameplay
Players select to play on either the Agathia Knight faction or Mason order. From here their objectives are determined usually to be from an offensive or defensive position. Player scoring is based on kills and contribution to objective completion within the map. Some maps have several objectives typically in a linear fashion. One completion leads to the next until the final objective has been completed OR the defending team is able to prevent the other team from completing theirs.
The main attributes of players are health, armor and stamina defined by the class they've selected. Weapons also deal different amounts of damage and have different speeds and limits of dexterity appropriate for it's class.
Classes
Archers - The role of this class is typically to take out your oncoming opponents with precision and accuracy or weaken them for your team mates on the front line with your bows and javelins.
Footmen - A well equipped and well balanced class with speed and power. Footmen make use of swords, maces and various other weapons in up close and personal melee combat on the front line. Shields are also afforded to this class to deflect and mitigate potential damage from the enemy.
Knights - Powerhouses on the battlefield, this class uses strength and heavy armor superior to the other two classes to withstand much damage and to deal a great deal in return. Knights utilize their surplus of health and armor in addition to more powerful 2-handed weapons to be the muscles of the team.
Maps
Each map in AoC is intended to be more than a venue for players to display their skills, but rather an integral environment within an overall theme or story. Each map has very specific and individual objectives consequently demanding strict team work. In many scenarios teams must divide and allocate their efforts in numerous ways to complete an objective allowing for further advancement into the map towards a final goal.
In AoC, diversity is prevalent. Each map is more than just a new environment with similar missions but a whole new portion of a story with unique scenarios. Players may have to defend their towers or on the other hand, they may be the force trying to forge it's way across a narrow bridge to gain access to the enemy's fort. In other cases there may be a mission based object that demands an escort across the map into enemy territory where the opposing team must prevent this from happening.
The intent is to emphasize an unlimited potential of scenarios just like real battles.
