Team Fortress 2 Blog Update: Incredible Additions Being Worked On
Posted @ 6:43 PM, December 11 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2

The Team Fortress team had been drafted in to help with L4D in the past few months, but it seems they are back on home ground working on TF2 again. Although we won't see any updates this year, here is an example of what to expect:
  • Teleporters will be upgradeable to level 3. As the teleporter is upgraded, the cooldown will decrease.
  • Dispensers will be upgradeable to level 3. They will heal faster and generate metal faster as they are upgraded.
  • Spies will be able to recharge their cloaking ability by picking up ammo off of the ground.
  • We've made a bunch of minor changes by adding particle systems and upgrading the HUD to show things like deaths by critical hits, players that are overhealed, and giving more information to medics when people are calling for them.
That's not it though, they are also working on a couple other things, including the next class pack.
  • The next class pack will be the Scout. One of the main goals we're focusing on for him has been to provide tools that make him useful in maps like Dustbowl & Goldrush
  • We are actively working on a massive XBox 360 update, which will include pretty much everything we've shipped on the PC in the last year.
  • We're also working on bringing over a variety of engine improvements from Left 4 Dead into the TF2 engine, including multicore support.
Incredible updates for Team Fortress 2. There is no date yet for this release, or the update coming to the 360 users but we will post it here as soon as we know. To see the full blog update see here.
A Heavy Update
Posted @ 1:24 PM, August 12 2008, By: Evo In News, Team Fortress 2

Some of you may have thought that the Pyro Update for Team Fortress 2 packed in a whole heap of new stuff. While that was true at the time, the Heavy Update is going to come along and change the way we view Team Fortress 2 updates for ever. The update is going to be so big that a new Heavy Update website had to be created to pack in all the news that will be drip fed to us over the next week with the update being planned to go live next Tuesday.

The update will feature three unlockable weapons and thirty-five all new achievements for the Heavy. In addition you can expect to see a whole new game mode along with five maps for it to launch. Furthermore there will be a new Payload map which will have more open spaces than Goldrush, and if that is not enough the community map, cp_steel will also feature in the update.

Keep your eyes peeled here for new information, screenshots and a special installment of the 'Meet The Team' videos. For now, check out this page for the lowdown on cp_steel.

New Medic Weapon Details
Posted @ 3:39 AM, April 16 2008, By: Evo In Team Fortress 2

Shacknews have managed to get all the latest information from Valve regarding the new Medic weapons due to arrive in Team Fortress 2 any time now. The weapons are known as The Blutsaugher, The Critzcrieg and The Ubersaw.

The Blutsaugher is unlocked after getting 12 of the new Medic achievements and will give you the chance to retreat from battle while staying alive. This weapon cannot get critical hits, but it will suck health from an enemy!

The Critzcrieg is earned after reaching two thirds of the new achievements. This new medigun uses its ubercharge to give its target 100% chance to shoot a critical hit!

Finally The Ubersaw which is unlocked after getting all 36 of the new achievements. The Ubersaw will take damage done in melee attacks and convert it into an ubercharge. Four hits from this will fully charge whatever medigun the medic has!

Shacknews also reveal that they will have hands-on impressions of the new content and an interview with Robin Walker soon!
Valve Want Free Console Content
Posted @ 5:09 PM, March 4 2008, By: Evo In Team Fortress 2

In a recent chat with Eurogamer Doug Lombardi talked about how Valve would like new content for Team Fortress 2 to be free on consoles. The interview can be found here.

Asked whether that still meant for free, Lombardi said: "Oh, for free, definitely, as much as we can. You know, we don't have full say over that, but we have some say over how that works.

"So, for us, for free is the way to go. The gamers play the game, they want to keep playing the game, so we've collected their fifty bucks at the start, and once they're in the park, they can ride any ride they want in the park. So, for us that's been the philosophy."
This obviously won't go down well with Microsoft who generally require all content to be paid for regardless of developer plans. Time will tell what happens with this, but for now read the rest of the interview here.
Possible Soldier and Pyro changes revealed
Posted @ 9:36 AM, January 14 2008, By: Evo In News, Team Fortress 2

This thread has popped up on the Steam forums detailing possible changes to the Soldier and to the Pyro in Team Fortress 2. The thread poster got in touch with Robin Walker concerning Pyro point scoring and the Rocket Launcher for the Soldier. The response from Robin is as follows.

Hi Buzzbob.

Thanks for all the feedback, and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the game. We are indeed investigating Soldier changes, and one of the changes we're trying out is focused on making Soldiers a little more careful firing their rockets at point blank targets.

As for the Pyro scoring, we have a minor tweak coming down the pipe. He's going to get a small amount of points for every enemy he ignites. This should reward you for those moments where you drop into the middle of an enemy pack and light them all up, hurting them all and disrupting their plans, but not managing to actually kill them.

Robin.
Until we hear anything confirmed from Valve we should just wait and see, but following on from other recent Team Fortress 2 news I think we can put this down as probably being true.

Thanks to QT for the tip.
Major Team Fortress 2 News
Posted @ 6:47 PM, January 11 2008, By: Evo In Team Fortress 2

Shacknews is reporting that some major Team Fortress 2 changes are due in the coming couple of months. The article indicates that there will be two new maps and that changes effecting the Medic class are only the beginning of a wider change for the game.

"Our estimate is that both these maps should be out within the next 2 months," Valve employee Robin Walker told Shacknews. "We expect to ship other new content before that."

"It's a large scale modification to the core of the game," Walker hinted. "It'll debut in a limited fashion through the Medic first, but it'll be affecting all classes eventually."

"We're really looking forward to the community reaction," he continued. "We're really excited about where TF2 will be going over the next year."
Shacknews also promise to have detailed thoughts on the new maps early next week.
