Day 2 Sniper Update: Payload Race + 2 Arena Maps
Posted @ 5:08 PM, May 13 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2

Day two of the Sniper update and we will see a new game mode Gladiatorial Cart Combat where both teams must guide their own cart up hill to a finish point. The map is called Pipeline, and apparently if you stop pushing for a second it rolls back down to the bottom of the hill again.

The update will also bring two new Arena mode maps called Nucleus and Sawmill, which look very sleek. See the full sniper update including a postcard from the Sniper here.
New Team Fortress 2 Update
Posted @ 5:13 PM, May 1 2009, By: Evo In News, Team Fortress 2

Two new updates have been released for Team Fortress 2, whilst the first makes some changes to cp_egypt the second update sees some more changes for the character loadout menu which are there to support future features. You can find more details here.

If anyone has used this update, is there anything as interesting as the hats section that was added recently?
Team Fortress 2 Update…with hats
Posted @ 8:32 PM, April 20 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In News

A new update has just been released for Team Fortress 2 with some interesting changes
  • Reworked the character loadout screens to support future features
  • Added the ability for players to permanently delete items from their inventory using the new Backpack menu. This does not reset achievements. Once an item has been deleted it can never be re-earned
  • Added the ability for players to reset their player stats using the Reset Stats button on the Stats menu. This does not reset achievements
  • Added a "player_teleported" game event that is sent when a player is teleported
  • Updated cp_junction_final to score per-capture instead of per-round. This fixes the map not working correctly with Tournament mode and the stopwatch
  • Scouts now drop the flag if they're carrying it when they start phasing
Good to see some extra options for stats in there. But the new backpack menu is all unknown territory still. Deleted items? What could these be?

Forum member Sliver has taken an early peek and found a 'headwear' section for each class. There is a variety such as a Sniper's hat + toothbelt, Engineer's miner helmet, Scout's batting helmet, or the Demoman's afro! See the full changelist here.

Team Fortress 2 Update Released
Posted @ 6:12 PM, March 5 2009, By: AciD In News

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Gameplay changes
  • Added a duck timer that prevents duck spamming while running around on-ground
  • In-air, players are only allowed to duck once before they touch ground again
  • Fixed several bounding box issues with jumping, falling, and rocket jump air-walking. Bounding box should be much more accurate there now
  • Increased backstab check so that Spies can side-stab again
  • When disguising, Spies now always start showing the primary weapon in their disguise, and can then switch it with the last-disguise key
TF2 Fixes
  • Fixed flamethrower loophole that resulted in the flame effect being stuck on while the flamethrower wasn't really firing
  • Fixed exploit that allowed players to circumvent the force-fire timeout on the pipebomb launcher
  • Fixed a bug that caused Natasha's slow on hit effect to be inverted from 75% to 25%
  • Restored sawmill_logs.mdl file, fixing some user maps that used it
  • Fixed some localization issues with Scout achievement strings
  • Removed the "Final" phrasing in the map loading screen
Engine fixes
  • Fixed a server crash on startup under Linux
  • Fixed a buffer overflow issue related to network string tables
  • Gamestats uploading is now done asynchronously. This fixes the client timeout issues on map changes

Scout Update Live

Valve have just released the Scout update, adding the 3 new Scout unlockables, 35 new achievements, 3 new community maps and a host of bugfixes and other small changes. You can also view the results of Valve's community poll on the order which the unlockables will be available here.

A full list of changes and additions can be found on the Steam news release, some of the most interesting changes can be seen below:

The next stage of the Scout Update reveal has been...well revealed. CP_Egypt is a new Dustbowl style control-point style map with a focus on vertical space in a very Egyptian styled setting. Check out some of the awesome images of this new map below:

In addition to this, Valve have gone and given us the full descriptions of the Scout's new achievements. Finally, for those of you who think the 'Bonk' energy drink is pretty cool, check out this video by The_B giving us a new twist on the new unlockable.

Quick Update: Tom Francis has possibly stumbled upon some else coming in one of the next updates, see what he has to say here.
Second Scout Unlockable – Bonk Energy Drink & Achievements
Posted @ 4:00 PM, February 19 2009, By: AciD In News, Team Fortress 2

Today is Thursday and that means there is a new update update on 'The Scout Update' website. Today's update reveals 35 new achievements and the second Scout unlockable weapon, Bonk! the energy drink.
Runnin’ rings around all them molasses-slow dummies out there on the battle- field is thirsty frickin’ work. But when it comes to quenchin’ that thirst, only one thermonuclear thirst detonator packs all the “Atomic Punch” you’ll ever need. Bonk! is fulla radiation, which as we all know is pretty great for givin’ people superpowers. Just one can’ll blast ya into a few second rush of radioactive energy so powerful you’ll be dodgin’ bullets like they ain’t even there!

Achievement examples:
  • I'm Bat Man
  • Dodgers 1, Giants 0
  • Caught Napping
  • Batter Up
  • Artful Dodger
  • Retire the Runner
The update also warns "After the beneficial effects of the radiation wear off, drinkers have reported experiencing feelings of lethargy that can last several seconds". You can visit The Scout Update web page here.
Second Scout Update: Watchtower and Junction Maps
Posted @ 4:17 PM, February 18 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In News, Team Fortress 2

Wednesday is here, as is a new update to 'The Scout Update' website. Today's addition are two new maps. Watchtower (arena map) created by Joshua Shiflet and Junction (cp map) created by Sean Cutino.
Watchtower, an Arena map that plays unlike any of Valve’s Arena maps, with a heavy focus on vertical space and long, open sight lines. Control of the central building is a key decision that teams must wrestle over. More Sniper friendly than most Arena maps, it’s a perfect complement to the Scout update. Batter up!
Junction is a Gravel-Pit style map that the community has been heckling us to include for months. Junction is a sharp contrast to Watchtower. It’s full of tight spaces and short sight lines, which create combat opportunities dominated by ambushes and explosive weaponry.

Scout Update Website Live – Release on Tuesday 24th
Posted @ 3:30 PM, February 17 2009, By: AciD In News, Team Fortress 2

There is only one mysterious Sandman bat, be sure to check the update page every day to see more updates!
You Scouts are gonna love this highly collectible bat that smacks baseballs at the other team, stunning the living crap outta anybody dumb, slow, drunk, mute or Australian enough to get in the way. The farther the ball flies before ricocheting offa some chucklehead's skull, the longer he's gonna be stunned. And guys who think they're tough because they're invulnerable? It works on them too. Now the bad news: You can't double jump when you're carrying this little beauty. On the other hand, double jumping never put anybody in a coma.

In addition Robin responds to few community questions such as: "When's the next update going to be out?" or "Why should I use Natascha? And doesn't she only do 66% damage, not 75%?".
