Team Fortress 2 Classless Update – Day 1: 18 New hats & New Arena Map
Posted @ 4:38 PM, August 11 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2
Well here is something new, a major update coming for Team Fortress 2 with no focus on a particular class and unlockable weapons. It looks like we will be seeing new information each day, day one showing some of the new 18 hats which will be available for all the classes, including a pyro firemans hat, a heavy ushanka and an extremely sophisticated bowler hat for the spy. The new arena map named Offblast looks impressive with a large mountain situated right in the middle. See the full update here. Update: There seems to be many hidden pages with this update alluding to several things: trading system, soldier update next, winning hats by fighting - see Darkside's forum post.

Team Fortress 2 Beta – Competitive Gaming?
Posted @ 9:18 AM, August 3 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2
The rumours are beginning to spread around the competitive TF2 websites and Steam forums about a potential new version of Team Fortress 2 specifically tailored for the competitive scene. Recently, Robin Walker had an interview with CommunityFortress expressing interest in promoting competitive TF2 We're excited to see the steady growth of the TF2 competitive scene around the world, and we try to keep track of what we can do to help it. So far, most of that help has taken the form of feature additions to the game, but in the future I think we'd like to get more insight into what else we can do. In particular, I'd like to build some more bridges to organizers within the competitive community, which is something we've tried to do but still continue to have trouble with. Apparently a select few competitive teams are working on fine tuning this new version of TF2, for 6v6 play. See original source here. Oh and on Robin Walker's Steam account, under recent games you can clearly see evidence of this new game as Team Fortress 2 Beta (see screenshot below)

Team Fortress 2 Update (Ambassador Improvement)
Posted @ 7:43 PM, May 26 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2
The second major update to the recent class pack additional content has been released. Some interesting changes in this one... - The Ambassador now does full critical hits on headshots, instead of mini crits
- The Dead Ringer now fully drains the cloak meter, even if the Spy leaves cloak early
- Fixed Spy disguise menu not being visible in HUD minimal mode

- Fixed kill descriptions for Force-A-Nature & Sandman, so server logs can distinguish them
- Identified feign deaths in the events sent to server logs
- Fixed server crash related to the Jarate
The update should be applied automatically. Let us know, is the ambassador a better alternative now?

Unlocks Explained and Bonus Map
Posted @ 5:39 PM, May 22 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2
We all want to play with the new toys, but how can we get our hands on them? Achievement grinding wasn't much fun, lets be honest...so what is the new system based on? Its simple, its time. How much time do you play TF2? The more you do, the more items you are going to find. That new system watches the amount of time that players are playing TF2, and gives them a chance to find items at regular intervals. They aren't guaranteed to get the item at those points, but they have a pretty good chance. We based the system on granting items on the amount of time played because we don't want players to have to do weird things like join achievement grinding servers to get new content. Basing it off time also has the benefit of ensuring that if you play a lot of TF2, you're going to get more items than players who don't. Using average times players play TF2, Valve are still tuning the period between getting new items. The work isn't finished yet however, new things are to come. - Item trading. This is why you're finding duplicates.
- Giving players a method to influence the system so they can work directly toward getting specific items.
- Adding more rare items like the hats.
Hoodoo, a popular community made payload map has also been added to the update, as well as a quick preview of some of the hats we will be seeing on the Bonus Day update page. Valve are also already working on the next class pack!
