World of Steamed Goo
Posted @ 2:56 PM, October 10 2008, By: Evo In Steam Games
2D Boy's World of Goo is on its way to Steam on Monday the 13th October in all territories. For any readers of my blog, Rock, Paper, Shotgun or the 2D Boy forums you will know that the game has a rabid fan base already and is considered to be one of the finest indie games on the verge of a full-blown release. I have been playing it non-stop since I got the preview first chapter back in February and since I got my hands on the game (thanks to having pre-ordered it) back at the beginning of the week. I can say, and many others will that this is a fantastic game. The game has already won the IGF Design Innovation and Technical Excellence Awards, a spectacular achievement for a game developed by two people working out of various San Francisco coffee shops. It is a physics heavy puzzle game with an engrossing story and a massive number of Goo. You build structures by stretching the Goo all over the place and forming some truly beautiful creations. Before I ramble away about my unending love of the game here is the low-down. The game is being released via Steam and several other places including 2D Boy's site for $20. The game features no-DRM when purchased from the 2D Boy site, but the Steam version includes achievements enabled via use of Steamworks. If you pre-ordered the game then you will be able to use your Magic Key to use it on Steam. Wait for Monday and buy this game, you won't regret it.

Valve and the PC
Posted @ 6:07 PM, June 27 2008, By: Evo In News
I happened across a very interesting article on Eurogamer earlier which can be viewed as a followup to the mini-conference Valve had with a select group of journalists last month. While there is a lack of any news regarding upcoming games from Valve, this is a very interesting article which looks at the role Steam is playing in keeping the PC as a leading games platform as well as the expansion of PC gaming in non-English speaking countries. It is well worth a read right here.

The Trial of Steam
Posted @ 4:12 AM, May 29 2008, By: Evo In News, Steam Games
Trials 2 has finally arrived onto Steam after I first got the feeling it would after a brief chat with one of the developers a few months ago. It is great to see Trials 2 on Steam as it is able to make great use of all the great features of Steamworks, and it also comes with a reduced price of $9.99 or $8.99 for a limited time only.Trials 2 is a dirt bike game which requires a traversing of a variety of courses ranging from the easy to god-damn ridiculous ones like Inferno. Easy controls, teams, broken bones and much more really make this a great game. A list of new features for the Steam release follows: - Steam UI integration (open Steam UI popup with shift + tab). Steam automatically handles features such as managing your friends, and displaying a info popup when a friend logs in and out or starts playing Trials 2. - Steam friends list and the Trials 2 profiles of your Steam friends accessible in game (Teams & Friends menu) - Track record list filtering by Stream friend list. - Steam player custom avatar icon is visible on Trials 2 profile screen for Steam players. - All achievements gained in Trials 2 and your Trials 2 playtime and experience show in your own Steam user page, and is visible to all other Steam users. - Our current (licence key based) activation system has been replaced by Steam DRM system. Also on Steam version we release new tracks using the Steam content upgrade feature. Same tracks will be available on both versions. Get it from Steam or get more details on the game from the website.

Everyday Shooter on Steam
Posted @ 7:05 AM, May 9 2008, By: Evo In Portal, Steam, Steam Games
Everyday Shooter is the latest addition to the Steam catalogue for a first week price of $8.99 before selling at $9.99 thereafter. Everyday Shooter has won numerous awards at the Independent Games Festival including Design Innovation. Everyday Shooter is an album of games exploring the expressive power of abstract shooters. Dissolute sounds of destruction are replaced with guitar riffs harmonizing over an all-guitar soundtrack, while modulating shapes celebrate the flowing beauty of geometry.
Play through different levels each with a completely unique musical, graphical, and gameplay style. Shoot to trigger musical sounds and riffs that combine to form the final soundscape of the game. Use points earned in the game to unlock extra lives, shuffle mode, and different visual filters. In other Steam news Portal - First Slice is now available to everyone for free, this is a demo of the stunning Portal. Finally the Steam store has gone had a big facelift, restart Steam to check it out.

Posted @ 12:58 PM, May 5 2008, By: Mikael Grizzly In News, Steam Games
Now you Medics will have something to play in between bouts of paranoia about Dispensers Going There, as an update for Audiosurf has just been released, with (in the words of Doug Lombardi) "a host of new features and content including last.fm audioscrobbling, the ability to run Audiosurf as a music visualizer, scoreboard comments, and much more. Many of these new features were produced as a direct result of community requests and feedback."
And let's not forget the fabulous new Mod interface! Keep on Surfin', brothers and sisters!

Are the red trumpets ready?
Posted @ 2:25 PM, March 20 2008, By: Mikael Grizzly In News, Steam Games
If not, they should be as soon as possible, as Red Orchestra prepares for another tour of Steam. Tripwire interactive has leveraged Steamwork's online matchmaking services, among many integrating the Steam Server Browser, joining games your Friends are playing (both in and out of the game) as well as support for statistic viewing on www.steamgames.com. From the press release: "Adding support for Steamworks was an easy decision for Tripwire," said John Gibson, president of Tripwire Interactive. "The work to add this collection of services was minimal and will have a big impact for our fans. The matchmaking abilities added today will make it much easier for RO players to find matches. And leveraging the Steam Server Browser saves Tripwire time and money over the long haul, allowing us to invest more in gameplay and less in supporting services." The update for Red Orchestra will be automatically applied both in Steaming and retail versions.

Steam Hits 15 million
Posted @ 3:23 PM, February 7 2008, By: Evo In Steam
Steam has now officially hit 15 million subscribers and has witnessed year-over-year sales growth of 158% through the holiday season. Pretty impressive figures there for Valve. Some words from Gabe. "PC gaming is thriving, and has evolved into an era of constant connectivity," said Gabe Newell, president of Valve. "That connectivity gives us the ability to have a much better relationship with customers, not just for delivering our games, but across all aspects of our business - including the design, development, and support of our games. Features like Guest Passes, Free Weekends, Gifting, and the Steam Community have been very well received both by customers and the developers who are using Steam. We are accelerating our release of new functionality in the next year as well as finding new ways to work with our partners such as the release of Steamworks, which allows them to bring the many benefits of Steam to their packaged products." Skies are Clear on STEAM
Posted @ 1:57 PM, January 24 2008, By: Mikael Grizzly In News, Steam Games
The prequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, will be released on Steam, the only digital dowload distribution platform to carry the game, simultaneously with traditional retail channels. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky brings the players one year prior to the events of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game in 2011. A group of stalkers has, for the first time, reached the very heart of the Zone-Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant-and brings about a cataclysm on the brink of a catastrophe. Through a rich narrative and gripping combat action, players uncover new challenges and insights in the Exclusion Zone. A new version of the game engine, X-Ray 1.5, powers superior graphical details and realistic and non-scripted combat AI.
Steam has introduced S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to many thousands of new fans all over the world. We chose to deliver the digital version of the game exclusively on Steam because of its proven success not only as the leading global digital distribution platform for games, but because it allows us to directly reach its integrated and active community of gamers.
Said GSC Game World's CEO Sergiy Grygorovych.
More information about the game is available on Clear Sky's Steam page.

Orange -> Green
Posted @ 6:55 PM, December 28 2007, By: Evo In Steam Games
The latest rumblings about the internet is that Orange is now greater than Green. At least that is what Doug Lombardi is telling me! Okay, okay, enough of me throwing some innovation into this news post, lets get down to the hard facts; these are that over the next few days any Orange Box related product is going to save you money! Following is the information straight from Doug's keyboard Games, Soundtrack on Sale this Weekend
All flavors of The Orange Box as well as the official soundtrack are available for huge savings this weekend from leading online and retail outlets around the world.
"Still Alive" just $0.89. A digital copy of The Orange Box soundtrack is available now from Amazon.com for just $7.99, a two dollar savings off the regular price. And MP3's of the individual songs, including both versions of Portal's "Still Alive", may be purchased for just $0.89 per song from Amazon.com.
If you still haven't played the games inside The Orange Box, retailers around the world -- including GameUK and Best Buy USA -- are running incredible specials on the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 versions of The Orange Box.
The PC version may also be found at a 25% savings during the Steam "Store Wide" Year End sale happening now through New Year's Day. Speaking of the Steam Year End Sale, the "Valve Complete Pack" is now just $74.95 through New Year's Day - a 25% savings on the Pack that includes every Valve game offered on Steam, including The Orange Box. For those who didn't cotton on by the way, 'Green' is commonly used to talk about the mighty dollar, and with Orange Box related products saving you money at this time of year, we can see that the Orange Box is greater than the dollar!
