Left 4 Dead Bits n Pieces
Posted @ 6:27 PM, November 7 2008, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead
I assume everyone has been playing the hell out of the Left 4 Dead Demo? Yes, good. I have a handful of bits and pieces for you regarding the game and the demo, I shall keep it short and sweet, that is surely the best way. Those four great chaps on Rock, Paper, Shotgun have a couple of Left 4 Dead screenshot galleries for your viewing pleasure. Screens come from the first two campaigns, and I assume were taken during their visit to Valve earlier this week. Again those guys from Rock, Paper, Shotgun have worked their magic and have cobbled together some console menu commands and various links which will allow you to play as the infected and get split screen gaming on the PC. worth a read.I have some very brief and rapid thoughts on the demo right here. You can also find Tom Francis briefly arguing why the Left 4 Demo isn't the best way to show off the game, find that here.Left 4 Dead 411 have a small selection of videos from the Demo. Firstly the No Mercy Apartments done in just 40 seconds. A video showing off how a fun way to kill the Tank on expert mode is over here and finally a video showing off 1200 zombies running wild. That is just a brief digest of the latest Left 4 Dead bits n pieces, hope you enjoyed them all.

RPS Left 4 Dead versus mode impressions
Posted @ 11:58 AM, November 5 2008, By: AciD In News
Rock, Paper, Shotgun have posted their impressions on Left 4 Dead versus mode.
This is how multiplayer should be, people! One side deliberately over-powerful, the other side constantly respawning and aiming to grief as much as they can. And even when being trounced, that experience was a lot of fun. It might feel like running with a bungee cord tied around your waist, but it’s still entertaining when you fall flat on your face and get flung backward.
Pure cinema. Very funny. Very brutal.

Left 4 Dead Dedicated Server Information
Posted @ 9:43 AM, October 31 2008, By: AciD In News
Eric Smith has released the following regarding Left 4 Dead dedicated servers: We'll be releasing the Left 4 Dead dedicated server files prior to the Left 4 Dead demo being released. More details will be sent to the mailing lists when we have them.
There are two things to keep in mind regarding running a Left 4 Dead server:
1) The CPU load for the Left 4 Dead server will be higher than you're used to for games like TF2. Left 4 Dead has a bunch of A.I. for the zombies, etc., that games like TF2 don't have.
2) Left 4 Dead uses a new matchmaking system we're developing. We'll be working with the server admin community to make sure the new system operates as smoothly as possible. More details on this later.
If you are interested with more upcoming info, you you should consider joining HLDS (Half Life Dedicated Server) mailing list.

Gamestop have provided a date when you can expect to be able to play a demo version of Left 4 Dead when pre-ordering the game. Reserve Left for Dead and receive early access to the demo. The early access will start on 11/6/08 and will end on 11/11/08. Offer valid only while supplies last.
Not confirmed by Valve yet, but they must have got this information somewhere. Regardless if you buy through Steam or Retail, the dates are likely to be the same. So next Thursday...we could be playing Left 4 Dead. See source here.

Left 4 Dead Pre-Orders 60% Up on Orange Box
Posted @ 7:04 AM, October 10 2008, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead, News, Steam
According to this Edge Online report pre-orders of Valve's upcoming survival-horror-co-operative-shooter-extravaganza are 60% higher than those for the Orange Box.
Valve managing director Gabe Newell has this to say regarding the pre-orders:
"People had really strong reactions to Left 4 Dead when we started showing it. Our pre-orders are running 60 percent ahead of Orange Box. This in combination with the fact that it is a new IP made us think that an extensive marketing program made a lot of sense."
Valve have launched a massive promotional campaign for the game costing $10 million and covering television, online, print and outdoor advertising. The promotional posters for the game (as seen below) feature the logo of the game, the disfigured hand that is now synonymous with the game.
These advertisements will run hand in hand with a massive television campaign with 30-second adverts appearing on a wide variety of US TV networks from November 9th to the 28th. The ads will be mixing humour and horror, and I assume with bear classic Valve stylings.
The Xbox 360 and PC demo of the game is slated to be released in early November and will feature 1-4 player gameplay from the game's "No Mercy" campaign. Newell is also positive regarding the future success of the game.
"Well, Left 4 Dead has a long way to go to beat Half-Life and Counter-Strike, but our fans' excitement when they play the game has certainly infected us. It will be a top five title for the year, but beyond that we'll have to see how big it gets."
Pre-orders up 60% on the Orange Box, a $10 million advertising campaign? I am sure that Left 4 Dead will be a hugely successful game.

Left 4 Dead – PC Gamer Showdown Impressions
Posted @ 2:51 PM, September 29 2008, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead, News
The PC Gamer Showdown has come and gone, and as far as I am aware nobody here went to it. However my good friend SteveTheBlack did go and of the games on show he spent most of his time with Left 4 Dead. Steve thought the game was so good he queued up three different times to get to play it. He talks about his experiences right here.It was a witch that gave me the biggest fright during one play through. One of my buddies set her off and got floored. It was a dark room, lit by flashlights at the occasional crackle of a damaged light. In the distance, where my buddy had been moments before, were two glowing eyes staring at me. The lights flickered and I saw her, just for an instant. She was ripping into a figure on the ground, but her eyes were looking at me. I was her next target, she had already decided that, all she was doing now was deciding which part of me to eat first. Luckily, a clip of hunting rifle bullets was sufficient to put her down just as she got close enough to nom on my fleshy goodness, albeit with some help from the other survivors. Read his impressions of Left 4 Dead here.

Why no PS3 Left 4 Dead?
Posted @ 12:57 PM, August 31 2008, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead
Chet Faliszek has provided Kotaku with a brief summary of why there isn't a PS3 version of Left 4 Dead at the moment. Faliszek said that it's mostly a matter of development time. Creating the Xbox 360 version of the game is close enough to creating the PC version that it's "almost like pushing an A button," he said. The PS3 version, though, essentially requires starting from scratch. More information including a mini-lowdown on how the 360 version plays right here.

No Cut Scenes in Left 4 Dead
Posted @ 12:53 PM, August 31 2008, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead
It has been confirmed on Kotaku (reporting from PAX) that Left 4 Dead is going to be cut scene free, but will have three times as much dialogue than Half-Life 2. There will be a short introduction to the game which will be created by those behind the Team Fortress 2 cut scenes and trailers. Chet Faliszek had this to say on the matter: "We didn't want to have the game game gummed up with a story line," Faliszek said. "We wanted to keep it really clean and tight. A zombie apocalypse."
"It's about killing zombies, not some fable on the reconstruction of humanity." For more information on Left 4 Dead cut scenes and story lines head on over here.

Left 4 Dead on Tour
Posted @ 1:34 PM, August 12 2008, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, step right up for some breaking news, Left 4 Dead is going on tour. Starting with the Leipzig GDC next week the zombie-horror game will be playable to both public and press. The Penny Arcade Expo at the end of the month will see the worldwide debut of the Xbox 360 version of the game. Finally from the 26th September you will get to see Left 4 Dead in action at the Festival du Jeu in France and at the PC Gamer Showdown here in the UK. "The shared experience of Left 4 Dead is unlike that of any other action game," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "That's what we've experienced playing the game, and from showing the game to the press and our partners. It sounds cliché, but in many ways you have to play this one to truly appreciate what we're attempting. So, to give gamers a chance to sample this new type of experience first hand, we're taking Left 4 Dead on the road." More Information.
