Code of Conduct

The Halflife2.net servers are available for any community member to play on, however if you do decide to play on the servers you must follow this Code of Conduct (CoC). This is to ensure that the servers are a fun and fair place to play on.

Breaking the CoC does carry a penalty and there are server admins to make sure that the CoC is obeyed. If you break the CoC whilst on the server you will be told what you are doing wrong and warned by a server admin. Failure to comply with this warning will result in you being kicked from the server or being banned from the Halflife2.net servers. The length of time you are banned for depends on the offence, ranging anything from one week to permanent.

If at any time while you are playing on the Halflife2.net servers you spot someone breaking the code of conduct you can do three things.

1. Warn them. Some players will realize what they are doing wrong and stop. Just inform them politely where they are going wrong. Remember a warning from a player is as good as a warning from an admin.

2. Call an admin. To do this join our Steam Group Chat or IRC chat channel #halflife2 and request a server admin giving us details of the server, offender and what's happening so we can quickly deal with the situation.

3. If no admin is available, or you feel that the person should be punished get some evidence and give it to an admin. The best way to do this is with screenshots or demos. You will also need to take the persons STEAMID. The best way to do this is to go to the console and type "status". When the info comes up take a screenshot of it. When you have this collect any screenshots of the actual event happening (i.e. the person team killing - you will be able to see the name of the person and their victim in the top right) and put it in a zip file. Include the name of the person and the STEAMID in the zip files name if you can. Then just send it to an admin You can find email addresses on our server admins page.

Under no circumstance take the "law" into your own hands. Do not harass or behave in a CoC breaking manner in retaliation. Also if you think someone on the server is cheating don't accuse him/her of cheating or use abusive language against them. Call an admin or get some evidence and give to an admin after the game. There are some excellent players out there and it is not fair on them if they get abused or insulted every time they play on a public server.

What to do if You're Banned

If you find yourself banned, don’t go on the forums with a rant or moan. The first step is to get in contact with the admin who banned you , which you will find in our abuse database. If you still want to contest the ban after speaking with the admin, speak to either the head admin or Munro. But there is no point in jumping straight to the top they will simply refer you to the admin as fist point of contact.

Definitions of Naughty Stuff

(1) Cheating: Cheating is defined as any method used to gain an advantage not available to normal players. This definition includes any form of aim-bot, speed cheat, spiked models.

(2) Bug abuse: This is defined as the wilful use of known bugs in the engine and mod. A map bug is defined as using any area of the map where you can see outside the maps’ visible area, i.e. you can see the bottom of the skybox.

(3) Disruptive and Abusive Behaviour: Any activity by a player that disrupts or spoils the enjoyment of the game for other players. This includes (but is not limited to), repeated spamming, repeated verbal abuse, use of expletives (yes there is a 9pm watershed , but it has its limits), door blocking and voice comms spam. Disruptive play does not include "camping" but does include derogatory or offensive names of players.

(4) Racism: Racism is defined as defaming or insulting a person or group of people based on national, ethnic, geographic, or religious background. There is no place for racism in the world and it is not acceptable in the game. Ever. The same applies to sexism.
