Valve Update Midnight Riders Site
3:26 PM November 20, 2009 By: Hectic Glenn | In: Left 4 Dead 2 | 15 Comments
The mysterious website owned by Valve based around the fictitious band the Midnight Riders has been updated with a great deal of new content. We mentioned a few days back this site had players intrigued and the belief is that the Midnight Riders are likely candidates for Left 4 Dead 2 DLC. References to the band are seen and heard throughout the Dark Carnival chapter.
The site now includes an extensive blog of the band's activities, album art and 2 youtube videos of songs by the band. Valve seem to be adding some depth around the story of the Midnight Riders making it likely we will see them in L4D2 as future downloadable content. |

Winners Announced for Halflife2.net Poem Competition
7:47 PM November 19, 2009 By: Hectic Glenn | In: Competitions, News | 26 Comments
Many thanks to everyone who entered our competition to write a love poem to the Spitter. We had a massive response and I needed the help of our 3 poetic overlords to judge this contest. I passed on all entries (without names) to Sulkdodds, Ennui & KineticAesthetic and this is what they had to say:
You ‘orrible lot. There’s not a poet among you. We have judged you, and we have judged you harshly. Perhaps it would be going too far to say that these stupendously fortunate winners are merely the best of a bad bunch. But we cannot lie: there wasn’t a single entry that didn’t at some point make the judges groan in genuine abdominal pain. Still, we suffered through it, as you did for your art – or perhaps more accurately for a copy of Left 4 Dead 2.Big props to all the winners and thanks to everyone who entered! You can read the 5 winning poems right here - Winning Poem Entries. PS: To the guy whose poem came with definitions: many thanks, but actually we know what words mean. We have heads the size of Volkswagens. |

Digital Price Drops Don’t Hurt – Valve
6:56 PM November 18, 2009 By: Hectic Glenn | In: Steam | 16 Comments
Speaking today at the Montreal International Game Summit, Jason Holtman of Valve (Director of Business Development) talked about how Valve are able make dropping prices of large titles on Steam effective, increasing sales over a period of time and stop the title feeling like a bargain bin product.
Fundamentally people thought that with pricing if you ever decreased the price of a product it hurt your future sales and it hurt your product as a whole. Don't ever take a top-end product and go to USD 5-10 because everybody's going to remember and they'll never buy it at the high price again, they'll think it's in the bargain bin.Such practice was evident during Halloween when Valve released new content and dropped TF2 to $2.50 several times. When we took the game up back to its full price after we gave away all that free content and gave away lots of copies – tens of thousands of copies – we actually increased the user base and more people came back the following weekend and bought it at full price than we were selling the week beforeJason also mentioned when Left 4 Dead was sold at 50% last Christmas and Valve moved more units of Left 4 Dead on that weekend than at launch. Left 4 Dead 2 Gets 6 VGA Nominations & Midnight Riders
5:28 PM November 18, 2009 By: Hectic Glenn | In: Left 4 Dead 2 | 22 Comments
Spike TV have posted their nominees for this year and L4D2 is up for six! These include: Game of the Year, Studio of the Year, Best Xbox 360 Game, Best PC Game, Best Shooter and Best Multiplayer Game.
If you wish to pledge your allegiance to Left 4 Dead 2 you can vote here. Many of us have been enjoying L4D2 for the past 2 days, and for anyone who has played Dark Carnival the name Midnight Riders may ring a bell. They are the band which the survivors discuss and oddly enough a suspicious website owned by Valve has popped up here - Midnight Riders. Whatever could it be? |

Left 4 Dead 2 Review Roundup
11:49 PM November 17, 2009 By: DigiQ8 | In: Left 4 Dead 2 | 7 Comments
It's finally here. Left 4 Dead 2 has been released (after an hour and a half delay) on Steam yesterday, and it's amazing.
Both the PC and 360 versions have received very positive feedback from gaming websites and magazines. According to IGN "If you’re still interested in the gameplay, then you’re going to enjoy every aspect of the sequel since it’s improved in all areas" and it got it an outstanding rating (9.0/10) 1UP say there's more than enough to call this a sequel and it "earned the 2 at the end of its name". (A). Game Informer also have a positive review.. The newest chapter in the undead uprising now oozes with even more of the proven developer’s trademark personality and polish. If you are among those who think the sequel is coming too soon, prepare to eat your words like so many brains. Left 4 Dead 2 is everything a sequel should be: perfected, expanded, and an absolute riot - 9.5/10More reviews:
