Atari's Act of War

just wanna raise awarness that Atari's act of war (modern/future war strategy game) will be comming out on March 15th tuesday. If you are into strategy games with a modern era of military and future military equipment you might want to check out this promising title.

Heres the website for the demo download and other info, (note their is no skirmich mp demo)

http://www.atari.com/actofwar/us/index.php

Personally I don't like the website, but the demo was cool and I like the urban theme and the engine is so far great. Their is a few nit pick things you could say about the game from the demo but I think it will surely blow the socks of anything in its category including the horrible Generals / Zero hour Ea games junk. But thats a whole other thread.

I'd say my favorite strategy games are (in order)

!) cnc dawn
2)cnc red alert
3)codename panzers phase one
4)Starcraft

My one gripe with that whole game. The camera controls were crappy. That ruined the whole expirience for me. Whether it will be fixed for the full game remains to be seen.

"And it all looks absolutely delightful. The graphics are rich and meticulously detailed; the maps are large and packed with furniture - often housing hundreds of destructible buildings and dense foliage. The zoom range too is superb, allowing you to close right in to see the grimaces on your enemies' faces, and the effects are suitably extravagant."

"Act Of War takes the old-school RTS formula and enriches it in countless cool ways, using the lessons of the past decade to create a single-player campaign that's as valid and exciting as anything else in the genre."

Sure, the zoom in range was superb, but I could never zoom out far enough for my liking. You could never quite see the direction you were going.

I can't really talk though. I am more a fan of historical RTSs like AoE and TW. I am super excited about Stronghold 2 aswell.

I played the demo quite a while back, and I liked it. But it feels strikingly like Command & Conquer Generals.

I don't have time to look but is that like SW: Battlegrounds? One of the only Star Wars games I ever liked that was.

Press Release
Marin County, Calif. – January 21, 2005 – LucasArts revealed today that it will give PC players the opportunity to control the fate of the galaxy in an all new real-time strategy (RTS) game titled Star Wars Empire at War™ (tentative title). Set a few years before the events of Episode IV A New Hope, the game will let players rewrite history as well as experience the aftermath of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, the creation of the Rebel Alliance, and Darth Vader’s rise to power. Star Wars Empire at War is scheduled for a release in Fall 2005.

Using an entirely new game engine created by the Las Vegas-based developer Petroglyph, the game will feature beautifully rendered land and space battles set on memorable planets such as Hoth, Tatooine and Dagobah as well as never-before-seen environments taken directly from the Star Wars films and expanded universe novels. In the game, players can choose to join either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire, building and setting up tactical forces that can be unleashed on the enemy in real-time 3D. All of the gameplay and action within Star Wars Empire at War is a persistent, meaning that strategic and tactical elements from previous events will have a permanent effect on the galaxy.
