Can't get past loading screen?

I just purchased a new hard drive and tried to move my half life 2 game to that. After this my game decided to stop working, it won't get past the beginning load screen (to get to the menu). The screen just remains blurry and I have to restart my computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the game and steam but that didn't help, anyone know what's going on?

Same problem...I get to the beginning screen that says "Loading..." and thats it. Nothing more. I installed STEAM and HL2 on my D:\ drive....does it have to be on the C:\ drive in order to work?

System (not the best, but should work):
ECS K7VTA3v3 MB
AMD XP 2100
512M ram
Chaintech GeForce 5200 128M/128b
Win98SE
Cable Modem

Thanks for any help!!

Yeah, Half Life Source doesn't work either, same problem. Counter Strike and Deathmatch seem to be ok, though. Anybody know anything about this?

Okay...I've reinstalled everything to the C:\ drive and the same thing happens...it just freezes up on blurry loading screen (at about 640X480 graphics). Assuming it was graphics related, I installed latest NVIDIA drivers (66.94) and now when I load, its the same resolution, but starts to load black screen and stops about 1/8th of the way down and freezes the system.

Disturbing. This graphics card works everywhere...even Doom3.

How can I just adjust the settings the way I want to bring it up?!?! Ahhh....the good ol' days when someone could muck around with the graphics and audio until they had it tweaked to their system's perfection....this type of game loading just sucks....

Sounds like a common problem, considering it happened to me a couple of times, but I just restarted and the problem went away... Sorry I could'nt be of any more assistance. Try checking the... oh no I cant possibly be saying this... Steam forums.

...One more thing to add...

I see lines at the top of the blurry screen when it freezes up and does not load. They are real fine red horizontal lines about half-an-inch from the top of the screen. Still may be graphics related and I haven't ruled it out yet. Maybe refresh rate or something?

Why didn't Valve or Steam offer testing mechanisms for this software? I feel like I've bought a token for a food handout. "We're sorry, Sir...but our food is not best served on that type of plate...SO STARVE B@ST@RD!!"

STILL HAVING THIS PROBLEM! Grrr! Reloaded all drivers. Running Directx 9.0c with 66.94 Nvidia drivers on a 128M/128b FX5200. Only gets to blurry street scene that says "loading", then goes black about 1/4th way down the screen and freezes the whole system. Nobody else experiencing this?!?! Anyone got past it? Anyone else using FX5200 just fine? If so, gimme da skinny!!

Answer in another thread

I figured it out, apparently the new driver has problems with some nvidia cards because you have to reinstall the older driver and then it doesn't crash on you. I installed the 61.77 driver over the 66.93 and now it works!!
Thanks,
Matt

i dont know if this will help any of you but i used to have a similar problem, my hl2 would get to the loading screen and it wouldnt work and when i pressed ctrl+alt+delete it wouldnt bring up the task manager. till i decided to hold down ctrl+alt+delete for a few seconds it minimized hl2 and brought up my task manager and i saw that my firewall wasnt letting hl2 to connect to my computer or something, so i guess it was a firewall problem, once i clicked "unblock" hl2 started working
