John Peel has passed away... ;(

To anyone not british or hasn't heard the news this isnt the thread for you... British radio 1 DJ LEGEND john peel has passed on...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertain...io/3955289.stm

I dont normally get emotional upon hearing of a celebrities death and my usual reaction is just 'meh...' but upon hearing of soemone in the public eye dying. My reaction upon princess diana's death was 'woah... big news... thats a shame' but upon hearing this news i really am gutted. I've opened a bottle of wine that i was saving for a few years and im drowning my sorrows. To anyone who doesnt know John Peel was a british radio broadcasting legend who for 4 whole decades brought the nation to the attention of both unknown and breaking artists and who's passion for music goes unmatched. I've never heard of anyone through the whole world as passionate about music as this man who has sadly passed on. Just to give you an idea of how influential he was over the worlds music scene heres a quote from the BBC... 'He became one of the first DJs to give exposure to punk, reggae, hip-hop, before they crossed over into the mainstream.' Without him its possible that such music forms may never have gone mainstream in the way they did. Just listening to radio 1 right now i can tell they are really emotional right now about this news and they will miss him terribly...

If you want to listen in then get hold of real player of real alternative and listen in...

Mate I hear what you say.

John WAS new music I couldn't believe my ears when i first hear him.

An old feller playing gabba, country music and deth metal all in one show!

Unassuming and a regular at glastonbury I just hope I retain my passion for music as long as he did.

Cheers John Peel!

I loved the Orb's Peel sessions. I got them on vinyl here in the States.. which was a bit of an accomplisment for to find them over here. Sorry to hear about this.

It's a sad day for all. Poor John Peel. New alternative music will have to strive hard to find a replacement.
