Blue Shift loading problem

I have recently installed Blue Shift again, but I can't get it to work. every time I double-click the icon or boot from the CD the screen just flickers to black, then back to the desktop (twice). It's really annoying as blue shift is my fave expansion. Anyone here know a solution to this?

The game must be installed into the default directory, you'll still need the CD in to play.

Before re-installing, insure that all previous installations are cleared off your computer.

Change the command line settings in the shortcut to have -dev and -nointro in them.
Short of that I dunno what the problem is

It was in the default dir, and I had the CD in. No joy with altering the command line, so im trying a reinstall. Another strange thing, when I installed it it didn't ask for a CD Key. Neither did HL, if I remember correctly. Maybe that had something to do with steam? Thanks for your help anyway.

Steam won't have any affect on BS.

Completely uninstall BS by removing the BS folder from the C:\Sierra folder and try again.

The CD-Key probably wasn't asked for because it's all stored in your registry.

Well, I reinstalled HL and BS but still no luck. I was right though, neither of them asked for a CD Key. Wierd. I guess it's back to google...

Well, I still don't know what caused the problem, perhaps some corrupt registry entry, but I fixed it. Trouble is, I had to resort to naughtiness. I downloaded a cracked/fixed .exe file for BS and now it works. I don't reccomend this, but I feel I had no other choice (except not play the game).

*Sigh*

Why do you always feel guilty whenever you feel good?

That's completely legal providing you own the original CD. Which you do.

Yeah, I was going to do that, but the 80-something megabyte file size put me off. Oh well, i'll get around to it.

Related to BS, why doesn't Steam encorporate it into its GUI?

I have Half-Life, Opposing Force, and CS listed but BS isn't, why is this?

Blue Shift, while being a good fun but short Expansion had some really weired menu and control problems. For instance it woudln't let me run the game in my usual dispaly driver. Nor would it wouldn't allow me to use my mousewheel or its 5 buttons. While all the previous official mods for Half-Life allowed me to.

Strange.

Is this the reason they didn't add it to Steam?

The fact it doesn't have multiplayer..
(I think)
... may have something to do with it.
