a far cry from being any good

well guys at least we don't have to worry about farcry stealing hl2's thunder hey?
Anyone else notice the game demo is devoid of challenging artificial intelligence? What about the complete lack of physics in the game? I was so disappointed - i mean, why litter the beach and its varying docks with great big boxes when you can't shove 'em? After pushing boxes around in hl2 'beta' (well, my mate told me ) farcry felt so...flat. i felt like i was moving around a map not living in a world.
The characters, animation, ai and graphics (although the latter undoubtedly has its goodpoints) all reminded me of soldier of fortune II, which, well, just isn't good enough.

Let me know your opinions.

I completely agree. It entertains a few couple hours with its eye candy but then it just leaves a bland and boring taste in your mouth. Devoid of story, AI and atmosphere.. A game where the brain can go on holiday and admire the lush tropical environment... until it gets bored..

Could've use one of the two other FarCry threads.

The AI is quite good, maybe you weren't on hard, or switched AI balancing on? I'm not sure.
As for physics interaction, I was disappoint by this as well, but, never at any time did I feel the game was flat. Infact, I felt the complete opposite, I felt like I was in a lush, beautifully detailed world.
Personally, I'm still wanting FarCry, I still want it more than HL2 right now (then again, it's only because it's on radar as opposed to HL2's "TBA" date)

Everything else, past the physics, impressed me enough to want this game even more than previously. I'm pretty sure everyone is raising their bar of expectation too high, you're going to regret doing that once HL2 rolls around, a game can't live up to the hype most of you create for it.

It's a demo, it's supposed to be devoid of story.. the AI isn't devoid, I'm not sure why everyone seems to think so. The AI that's there is quite good, but I guess you guys are on easy? And, on the last point, the game lacks the least in atmosphere, I'm not sure what you're hoping for in terms of atmosphere, but what FarCry attempts to achieve on an atmospheric level, it does very well.

personally, i think it's great, but addmittedly i havent played the single player demo, just the multiplayer beta, and that doesnt show the ai. it works fantastically for me, on my ti4200, but does take a while to load. i certainly dont get bored in it, even just wandering around.

p.s. i liked sof2

perhaps i've been slightly too critical but i think we HAVE to raise the bar, we have to demand better games. Eventually producers will realise they can't knock out more DX:IW's and we'll finally be satisfied gamers

Big thread about this already
But hey, the forum is so void! Lets fill it with copies

I'm in on the same deal anyway. After MP2, NO game is quite the same, everything is so damn flat as you say. It has its charm in old games, but new games have the capability for so much more.

Its kind of like the complain I made about KOTOR on Biowares forum just a few minutes ago. It uses utterly awfull RPG Puzzles (TM) instead of trying to simulate the *real* world as any involving and true RPG should. Real AI (going to bed at night, working, talking to each other on random), real physics and interaction with the world is the core parts. Todays games CAN do this!!! Earlier they couldnt, and resorted to pretty bad solutions.

But nooooo, every game just have to do it halfway... MP2 had awesome physics, but no real AI. Gothic II had real AI and interaction with the world, but no physics whatsoever. KOTOR doesnt have any of it. Far Cry has real enough AI (except for a few quirks) but a static world. Etc etc etc...

The AI is incredibly adaptive, if you've played the HL2 then I don't understand how you could compare the two, after all, HL2 "beta" was completely scripted AI wise (not saying the E3 demos were, but the beta most certainly was scripted).

Not to mention the AI needs 0 bot waypoints, it's entirely self-contained, this means you'll see lots of good single player maps with equally good AI.

I thought the AI was great.

EDIT:
On the first docks of the beta, look at the wooden boxes that are stacked with one on top, you can move them... They float etc... they move when shot... More objects could have physics enabled on them and it would feel more immersive, but it's there.

I think ppl are both praising and being too harsh to this game, FarCry does what it set out to do.

It's neither exellent or dire - an average game with pretty gfx fun for a week .... but easily forgetable.

The AI gives it a place in my heart, on top of that is the view distance, which is much more than GFX, just think of the MP sniping and camping possibilities

u = on crack!!! it's a demop 1st of all so keep your pants on, 2nd of all, it's none of the things stated! except the physics part... but there is rag doll if u shoot the corpses! realistic rag doll! not like HL2's corpse shooting ragdoll...

I was impressed regularly by the AI...I've had them try to distract and flank me, ambush me, and react well to stimulus (rock/yelling).
The physics aren't bad, they just dont play a huge part in the game. An hour ago I was bowling barells down flights of stars and trying to knock down the ones at the bottem. It all happens fairly realisticly.

Far Cry was on my top list of "games I must buy" and when I heard people knocking the MP beta, I couldnt believe it. Then the demo came out, oh happy day, I went in not expecting too much, and when I loaded it up on max gfx at 1280x1024... it looked good... but not... breath-taking.
I actually played around for a bit and I left with a "meh" feeling... nothing spectacular, but I wasnt gonna shell out my hard earned cash for it either.

then I played it some more,... and some more... and some more... and the more I play it, the more I enjoy it. It really grows on you... sure there are a few things that need addressing, the AI is a lil wonky at times ( but honestly nothing that kills your gaming experience) the animations could be a tad touched up, and some optimizations could be made.... but all in all its a great game.

I love the stealth factor, that I can see how much noise Im making and as Babywax pointed out, my "signature" (how alert the enemy is to my presence) when I stopped running in and gunning everything, and started leapard crawling around into bushes, throwing rocks to distract enemies and knifing them when they werent looking, one by one.

it really changed my whole perspective on the game. Im going to buy it the day it comes out, regardless if they address above mentioned nuances or not.
once again... the Jeep has the best handling out of any vehicle I have ever used in a FPS (including Halo/Bf1942/Bf142: DC) the sounds are amazing and work together very well...

I dont know how anyone could compare this game to DE:IW that game was so bad it was scary.
