Halflife2.net Design Your Own Special Infected Winners!

Many thanks to everyone who entered our competition to design your own special infected for Left 4 Dead! We were sent some superb entries which made it very difficult to pick just 2 winners from all the great ideas we were sent. Our two winners for the competition are:
  • Finger - Entry called "Widow"
  • Hunter-Killer - Entry called "The Digger"
Both winners win a copy of Left 4 Dead for their impressive entries in this competition. You can see their special infected designs below!

You can see all the entries for this competition right here, including Zombieturtle01's The Mimic and Dr0ndeh's The Magpie who were close runners up! Enjoy.

Some nice entries here. Magpie is quiet clever.
Digger seems like the most game plausible, but it would only work in certain areas, IE: Streets.

But ooo, Eejit and Au Heppa had the same design... fight!

The Digger is pretty cool but I like the disguising zombie that ZT made as well. I always wanted to make a Licker like monster:

Almost like the AVP series crawling up walls, etc. I suck at drawing though, haha.

[beg]if either of the winners already have left4dead and need someone to gift it to and want to gift it to one of the runners up, let me know! (i only had left4dead on the xbox and have since traded it!)[/beg]

I did actually make an updated version of the Digger that must have got lost in translation. The idea was to have it so that on levels that were, let’s say, based on rooftops, the Digger could burst out of main wall structures in a similar way to the ground hopefully giving this infected a wider playing field. I explained it better in the description, maybe Hectic Glenn will update it
*EDIT*
Nice one Glenn, cheers for updating it!

That first one looks too much like the Spitter.

Updated it with the correct picture, that was the one supposed to be up. The difference with the second version was the hand being able to burst through walls which is a particularly frightening additional attack!

The Widow is absolutely disgusting yet I wish it did exist for some strange reason.

I like the lost son, I imagine it wandering the streets going "momeeeeee"? Three kids is nice too.

Hope this gives the valve devs some ideas.

Thanks! Had alot of fun working on this design! I felt the need for another female SI; had already concepted the widow out when Valve released info about the spitter. Stole some of my thunder!

The widow would be quite different from the spitter though. Functionally, she's a trapper - quite the opposite of the spitter. She can plant her goop bombs around choke points and othe strategic places to capture the unsuspecting survivor. My hope is that she would target rushers, lone rambo's, and generally wreak havoc on teams that aren't sticking together and paying attention to their surroundings. One of the biggest holes in the VS game right now is the ability for people to rush through the levels - hopefully she would curb some of that also.

I thought the digger was a great concept. It would be more challenging to implement (burrowing holes through the world would need some new tech), but sounds like alot of fun. I also really liked the presentation of this concept, with the little graphics of situational stuff.... well done!

Thanks again!
