New Steam Beta Client
A new Steam Beta Client is now available available from File -> Settings and then the drop down tab under Beta Participation. After opting into the Beta you will have to restart Steam.
The changes in this Beta involve the addition of the ability to 'Ignore Friends' and further tweaks to the game backup process. More information here.

This is great: my friends list is full of angry rapists I need to ignore all the time and I backup games all the time!

The thing that was purposely done where if you don't minimize a group chat window, it never blinks when someone sends a message was stupid.
I never ever minimize, I simply alt + tab. So I'm never alerted. I could use win + m, but I'm not use to that and would naturally do alt + tab

Can anyone confirm whether the 'ignore' function can be set to ignore 'friend is playing' alerts but not incoming chat?
There are some people who I want to know when they're playing a game and others I just don't.
