International Online Soccer (that's football to you UK chaps) Source has just released their first beta version. Beta 1.0 is available from various mirrors on their website.

The HL1 version was pretty cool.

I prefer releases like this: development announcement > quiet work time > release out of nowhere. No hype, no broken hearts, no empty promises.

I don't like soccer, or even sports for that matter, but I second 6Three's sentiments. I think I might give it a spin just because of that.

Agreed. I caught this at PlanetHalfLife today, not sure if it's been posted here yet or not.

It's not bad for an initial release. I'd like to see more mods release a working beta as a work in progress, and let the game grow from there. Staring at renders year after year doesn't mean much to me anymore.

Feels extremely similar to the original version, just much shinier. Anfield looks great I must say, the players could do with some work though. Plays a little juddery, with some craziness. Definitely a steep learning curve, very difficult to put together passing moves or shoot accurately. Some people I played with seemed exceptionally good. Not bad for beta, shows promise but for now I'm not going to rush back to it

I just played on a soccer server a few weeks ago.

That mod looks cool as hell, I'm checking it out.

Have to say it was quite enjoyable. I just got done scoring on my own team, making about 14 fouls, and about 100 passes. I just love to pass.

In any case, the math behind the mod is quite sound. I felt things worked as they should have, and the overall game seemed quite balanced. The art isn't anything to talk about other than that it servers its purpose- although there was a constant in and out bloom effect caused by a buggy HDR.

The game itself was fun, even when I was sucking terribly. Of course, the fundamental problem of all games is the players themselves, especially when it's a team game. No one stuck to their positions, instead they flocked to the ball like pigeons to a piece of bread someone tossed out on the beach. The slide tackle seems to do nothing, but I may be wrong. Everything else works and for a first release, it's extremely decent.
