I don't deny thats hes a heck of a director, but I'd think that maybe you'd want to play it a bit more fast and loose than a guy who's been known to spend hours trying to improve the performance of a hamster.

Restaurant at the end of the universe. For some reason the jokes in that one are more memorable for me.

I think the first one is the best. The story is more memorable, and it just seems more epic than the rest. And I found it the funniest.

I liked the first one the best..... like a lot of people

The rest were good, but they kind of blended together, not as memorable.

They're great though

Young Zaphod Plays It Safe is a short story, not a book; it's included in The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide--which has all five novels plus the short story plus an introduction by Adams and an article by Neil Gaiman.

So which is the sixth book?

I've read the entire 'trilogy', and The Resteraunt at the End of the Universe has to be my favorite.

Well. I guess it would just be a short story. If that's the case then I know of no 6th story. I just added it in due to it being in the Ultimate guide. I had never heard of it until that point.

speaking of Douglas Adams, Anyone ever read Long, Dark, Tea-Time of The Soul?

Yeah. Was pretty darn funny, with a lot of new ideas for him. A little mixed up at times though.

I have. And if you've read Dirk Gently 1, please do read Tea-Time. It's as hilarious as the original.

I have yet to read any of the other Dirk Gently books, but the first one should be arriving at my place soon, if amazon isn't lagging behind. I can't wait, I hear they are fantastic.

yeah, the first one is definitly the best. It was new and fresh. It slowly goes down from there, leaving #4 quite hard to tolerate...though i should still read 5

They are. Though not in the same way as the Hitchhiker books.

But funny, just the same.

So Long And Thanks For All The Fish was labled as the fourth book in the Hitchhiker's Trillogy,.. and it was just that, a trillogy. So Long was such a detachment from the rest of the series. Mostly Harmless was, in some ways, a return to the sensibility of the first three books, but still something was missing, and honestly, I hated the ending. If I recall, it ends with the something causing the universe to never have existed. What a waste. :/

Books 1-3 were awesome. They were all great. I really cant decide between them so I just voted for Hitchhikers. These are definitly of the most memorable books I've ever read.

I did read the Dirk Gently book, but I was quite young at the time and didn't really appriciate them. Maybe I would now, I'm not sure.

Anyhow. I'm looking forward to the Hitchhiker movie. I'm not really sure about Mos Def as Prefect, but I'll keep an open mind. I hope they did it justice.

RIP Douglas Adams

I'm more worried about who voices Marvin, though.

Alen Rickman. He's a good choice.
Mostly Harmless actually ended with the Earth being destroyed in every single dimension, while Ford, Arthur, Random, and Trillian (both of them) were on it. Douglas seems to have clearly had an intention to write them a way out of that in the next book whenever he got around to it, but unfortunately it never happened.
