well... my ipod seems as if it has stopped working. i hadn't synched it in quite a while (a month or two), and then i tried to about a week ago, and it came up with the "USB Device Not Recognized" dialog. so, what the eff? i've tried everything i've seen basically, but nothing has helped. i'm running on a 2.8ghz pc with a 9800 pro, 1 gig ram, and a bunch of usb ports (2.0); if you need more info, just tell me. any ideas?
the computer won't even recognize the ipod's hd in explorer anymore. it seems like this might've happened when i installed the new 100gig maxtor external HD. could they be linked? would anything happen if i unplugged the external HD and then tried the ipod? thanks in advance!

wow, i just figured out that if the Maxtor and the ipod are plugged in at the same time, the iPod will not read. the maxtor always overpowers it's USB-recognizing ability, or some sh^t. so, any suggestions on how to fix this little thing?

Unplug the Maxtor? Unhelpfullness abounds.

Anyhoo, is it a USB external drive? If not, there's probably something wiggy with your BIOS settings.

yes, it is a USB external hd. plugged in, in the back :)

problem, though. all my music (~26 gb) is on the external. and i honly have 30gb left on the internal, ugh! looks like i might be going through a lot of file-swapping?

Or get another HDD? It doesn't sound like you need a lot more space so...
