Blind Guardian

I want to look into this band. What do other people think of them? Are they comparable to any other power metal bands?? Thanks.

I'm into more extreme metal, but Blind Guardian are about the only power metal band I've ever genuinely liked, just for the sheer amount of craftsmanship they put into their songs and the atmosphere they sometimes attain which most other PM bands seem to miss. I'd recommend Nightfall in Middle Earth as their best album (the only one I know thoroughly anyway...).

I've talked to other people and they tend to agree that BG are not really comparable to many other power metal bands - there's just something different about them. However, their drummer left the band recently and started (or just joined, I dunno) a band called Savage Circus. These guys sound sooo similar to BG - even the singer sounds like Hansi. The few songs I've heard call to mind BG's most bombastic moments like When Sorrow Sang, etc., and people seem to be expecting big things from this band. Worth checking out for you, maybe.

Blind Guardian is power metal that can ignore the trademark cheesiness of the genre. There are few bands with fantasy themes that don't turn into a giant cliche, and I don't know of any of them.

But, similar bands? Persuader has a vocalist that sounds almost exactly the same as Hansi, but their sound is different.
