Yep, you guessed it, it's the time of year when the public get to vote on the Mods that have most impressed them this year. Registered members can vote for as many Mods as they like, with the results being published in January/February of 2006.

Not a member of the ModDB? Don't fret, you can still cast your vote! That's right, your 'vote'. As a non-member you are limited to one vote for this years awards, so use it wisely.

To give you some ideas, here are the Mods I voted for:

Caliber (http://mods.moddb.com/4241/Caliber/)

MINERVA (http://mods.moddb.com/5803/MINERVA/)

Project Hull Breach (http://mods.moddb.com/5083/Project-Hull-Breach/)

Iron Grip: The Oppression (http://mods.moddb.com/4726/Iron-Grip-The-Oppression/)

Fortress Forever (http://mods.moddb.com/4595/Fortress-Forever/)

Perfect Dark (http://mods.moddb.com/4478/Perfect-Dark/)

Black Mesa Source (http://mods.moddb.com/4384/Black-Mesa-Source/)

Neotokyo (http://mods.moddb.com/1950/Neotokyo/)

Return to Mana (http://mods.moddb.com/3575/Return-to-Mana/)

Of course, you're not limited to voting for a Source Mod. I just happen to have limited myself to watching for the Half-Life 2 engine as I don't own any other next-gen games at the moment.

If you're looking for the Mod you want to vote for, try clicking on the 'mods' tab at the top of the page and using the search function to find it.

Notably, I have not voted for Natural Selection this year. :bonce:

P.S. Be sure to tell us who you voted for ;)

Hopefully in 2007 it will be released.

It's not that, it's just that we're not registered on moddb :)

Christ, my eyes, when did Moddb change their colour scheme??

And I personally like the style of Caliber.

My favourite so far would be a toss-up between Hull Breach and Neotokyo. Both have excellent concept art, a lot of media and are set in fictional futures. I'd probably go for Hull Breach because they have more original concepts going for them such as the maps and the weapon concepts (http://www.hull-breach.com/ipb//index.php?showtopic=1687)

It's kinda dumb to vote mod of the year for mods that have not been completed yet.

It's like how they've just awarded Jurassic Park 4 an oscar.

It's like how they've just awarded Jurassic Park 4 an oscar. The way I see it I'm rewarding Mod teams for the work they've done on the Mod in the last year (which is why, if ZM was listed, it'd get a vote). If it's a concept I like and a team that has worked hard and produced results, then why not vote for them as best Mod?

Don't forget there's the public vote and also a list of other categories that the ModDB staff will be presiding over such as 'Best old skool mod', 'Best story', etc. I'd probably place most of those Mods in the 'Most promising' bracket. I think Perfect Dark and Return to Mana would have to go into the 'Best reinvention' as a strong contender, a claim you'd find hard to argue with if you've seen the PD video (the reworking of the MP Villa map is gobsmacking) and RtM's gorgeous 3D rendition of a 2D classic.

P.S. (and not HL-related) my vote for 'Most experimental (http://features.moddb.com/202/December-MOTM-Hollow-Moon/)'

"Best Reinvention" often translates as "Biggest Cease and Decist letter" :P

I agree that there's something inherantly wrong with voting on mods that don't quite exist yet.

I vote for Conquest: City 17 anyways.

Black Mesa: Source for the win! While it isn't out yet, there is a reason ModDB has 'TOP 5 UPCOMING'. Show your love everyone!

PS. I've also heard that BMS is looking to release a pre-media release screenshot soon. I wonder...
