View Full Version : Scared to play a game... (F.E.A.R.)

Simply put, I'm seriously paranoid to play the game. From what I've read in the reviews thread, the game is very eerie at times. I played the demo and was scared shitless when Alma showed up when you turned to crawl down the ladder. Probably irrelevant, but I've played numerous games that promised a "scary time" but monsters jumping out of places and whatnot just didn't make me jump, but this game has. Now, I know this will probably ruin the game, but I honestly don't care so I want to know every time Alma shows up so I can anticipate it (as well as any other parts you consider freaky). Now, hurry up people! The disc is nagging me to install!

Oh, by the way, hello everyone.

The demo is not even scary compared to the full version . At times i had to turn the light on in my room just to play. And the noises MY GOD THE NOISES THEY HAUNT ME

Well, I'm pretty far into it, and it hasn't scared me very badly at all- nowhere near as much as Doom III ever did.

Fear scary. Ah this keeps getting funnier Doom 3 now Fear. It's just a game it can't hurt you physically or too much mentaly.

Play silent Hill or better yet get Forbidden Siren for the ps2. Gotta love those japanese horror games.

Being scared is fun though! :D

Just install it, turn all the lights off, sound up, and play.

I have my eyes covered on scary parts, and have my brother control my mouse
thats kinda...yea...the worst that happened to me while playing was getting adrenaline rushes from wierd noises...

When I was in my workout room, working out lifting weights. My neighbors cat was by the window. I couldn't make it out at first, but I thought it was a person or an object. I was SCARED; paranoid all because from playing FEAR. It was creepy cause the cat just stared at me, I thought it was gonna transform into some little girl and shit.

FEAR is scary, but it isn't a constant scare fest and you can often tell when a scare sequence is coming up. The end hour is pretty nicely done, it could have been better but I felt they almost held back trying not to make it too scary. I don't think anybody can tell you every scare (there are lots), so just suck it up soldier and battle on.

I feel sorry for people who play and dont find it scary, its all part of the adrenaline rush, the illusion of a real threat , if you cant get lost in that fictional creation I think you miss out on a lot in terms of exitment.. so to those people who dont find it scary or frightning, go jump off a cliff while playing it.

When I first played the demo I was really trying to put myself in the scene and get scared, and I did :)

Now that I've got the game I find that the story is told quite well and puts you in the place of Super Soldier. When you play the game as that Super Soldier you don't really find it that scary... you kind of attact the scary bits rather than flinch at them and spray wildley, like I did in the demo :D

Slow-mo also gives you a feeling of power that kinda makes you at ease - makes you feel like your in control of whats going on.

Maybe its just me :)

EDIT:: I HATE LITTLE GIRLS! Scariest thing ever :)

doom 3 scary? oh man...
Well I quit playing doom3 without cheats at the first zombie you encounter (right at the start). Lucky it wasn't my copy of the game.

does that mean I'll be REALLY scared of F.E.A.R.? Because I want to play it :D

Definately scary. During some parts of the game, I just found myself to jump from every little sound, and immediately start checking every corner for little girls :(
I hardly never get so scared that I scream out aloud, or stop playing, but FEAR has made me do both. One of the coolest horror parts was when a phone in the office complex starts ringing. Made me stop playing for a while, I was just jumping all over walls because of it. Ofcourse there's just many more... But whatever you do, dont stop playing. The few end levels are best ever.

Once I jumped at someone (a hallucination, ghost) that was just standing in the doorway. He didn't jump at me, scream or anything. I was just not expecting him. Then he vanished (or came to floating bits).

Okay, you guys convinced me, just picked up FEAR. I'm expecting the environments to be bland, but an immersive single-player experience.

played the fear demo, not got the game yet, scariest thing yet in a game is the bit in D3 when you come out of a control room and see the shadow of the demon behind thr stairway just stare then walk away, not just "jumpy" scary, truly scary, stopped playing it in the dark after that.

definately fun getting a frightening once in a while:D

Then I would advise you not to buy it, took me 1 night to complete it. Scared the hell out of me, which has never happened to me in a game before, Doom 3 made me jump at parts but it wasn't scary. Some places in F.E.A.R just made me so paranoid and tense, the most memerable bit was when you turn off the fire alarm and turn round and their she is!!! only 1 exit door, I didn't dear leave the room, i sat their paused it, turned the lights on, went away and came back to see if she went, unpaused, stood in the room for 5 minutes waiting for her to dissapear, then i bilt up the courage and charged out the door shooting, damn thats sad :D but i loved it.

Scary business, i wanna play it again :D

Hey dumbasses, stop getting off subject, this is a thread that depicts how FEAR is scary and to share your opinion on the freakiness of the game, not to laugh at someone for working out, damn..

Anyway, yeah I hated when you're in the apartment building and that eerie "there's an illusion" tune comes on and jankowski appears from corner, or rather peeks out and says something about how "her" presence is strong here, I just sat there for a couple minutes not breathing, I thought I was braind dead for those few minutes, i hate this game and at the same time love it.

Am I the only person here who genuinely disliked the demo? I just really didn't like the way the game felt, the way you moved, the way you shoot, the enemies (Even the AI's not all that good. In the beginning of the demo, I shot the first guy you see in the head, a second guy I didn't even see then proceded to dive through the glass window, announcing his presence in the most obvious way possible...), the environments..etc. It just really didn't agree with me.

Ok, I was playing for the first time. I skipped the cutscenes why? So a freaking ghost girl. I really didn't wanna know the storyline i'm to manly ;).
I started playing the demo and as you walk up to the corner it says "uknown presence detected". I immediatly paused it. I asked my brother to see what there was. A flickering light. It was me, my sister, and the baby sitter.
I shot the light. I't didn't fliccker. I got scared I controled the keyboard the babysitter helped my bro with the mouse, and morgan told me where to go.
We got to the point where we saw the message again. We thought we heard a scream and some red smoke. There was red smoke. We all screamed. We continued on. "OMG BIONIC-DOG!!!eleven!!11!". We screamed. I got the courage to start playing. I saw the marine dudes. "DIE SON OF A BITCHS!!!" I was screaming like crazy. We all played and had fun. We didn't win the level though.

I was playing today and I was playing alone. I went to that sewer grate. A skeleton lay there it got pulled in by a hand. I saw it scream. "HOLY SHIT!"
I ctr-alt-delete'd.

That was probaly the last time i played that game...

The end man, the end was so ****ING INTENSE! As soon as i entered the Vault my heart was pounding so hard and didnt stop till i shut off the game and took a few breaths.

Game is amazing! Ending is amazing! Monolith is amazing!

What happened in the vault level? I've began playing and I'm still at the harbor... scared shitless. I've got the television and light on, that's how scared I am. It's just amazing how scared I am. I don't even wear my headphones, I play without them so I don't hear the "screech' sound when the girl passes by. ****ing INTENSE.

LOL, lets just say that from the vault the dream sequences start becoming much more real, the story becomes more pronounced and you get up close and personal with freaky girl Alma. It's well done and shouldn't be spoiled, not that it can really be spoiled since it's more freaky than at position x, y does z. I hear Mesh is playing FEAR next (remember Mesh does Doom?) and I think that should be fun. There are just a couple of great moments that you will see later, enjoy :D

Part that scared me the most:

Not plot related
There's a part where these huge glass windows break. It had been a little while since I was in a fight and thought that it was just more of creepy/crazy Alma scare action so I was a little tense moving forward through the area. A couple seconds after the windows break I see something cloaked moving very fast in my face and I jump like mad because I thought it was a scare and not those badass ninja guys. I jumped so much I threw a grenade by accident (the button is on my mouse) and blew me and the ninja up :P I jumped more than I did in the entire game and it wasn't even supposed to be a scare :D

Atomi

It hasn't been giving me too many scares. Usually you just know when something is gonna happen and usually it isn't very scary. I think the "unknown origin" radio transmission thing sucks, things would be scarier without them. And when the thrill music clip plays, I just think "what am I supposed to see?" "where's the girl?" when all the scare action is going on somewhere where I'm not looking. One time I was surprised when I was a little lost on where to go next I threw a grenade in this one room which had blood in its ceiling at one spot. A body dropped out of the ceiling. I guess I knew there was a body, but didn't think it would break apart.

Whats so scary about the little girl? I mean if she touches you do you die or what? If that was the case I can see how it would be a little more intense. Other then that I dont see how it is that scary :S.

f.e.a.r. kept that eerie tension high throughout the game. there was not many direct scares, but thats good. less is more. I was waiting for something to pop out and me shall wet thy pants all the time but often nothing happened. that made the scares unpredictable.

when the phone rings and alma comes crawling towards you in that office was heart stopping.

also when she stands outside an office window and just looks at you. "what the hell is hoing to happen now I thought". I went out and oh NO she is comming towards me lol. that was not funny either.
