So far we have this from another thread.

I'm actually having more troubles with the AI now than in the beginning. I just went through a fight were I got my ASS KICKED. One guy sat in the back peeking around a corner taking pot shots at me whenever I appeared. Two other guys were in a lobby-like area, one had moved a couch for cover and the other was using a pillar on the other side. The area was set up so whenever I wanted to engage one of them, all of them had a shot at me NOT TO MENTION the lights were cut by a 4th soldier. I had already used all my plasma rifle shots on a badass armor guy, all my grenades were gone from a heavy armor guy with a plasma rifle and all I was left with the assault rifles and shotgun. That fight took some work. After I beat those guys the 4th soldier came out with a shotgun when I didn't expect him and I got blasted.

The second time I went through the fight they used different cover so I could engage the sniping guy easier while only being shot at by one of the other guys in the lobby..

I've noticed that too.

Another thing that was crazy where the AI really got me good. I was hiding behind an office wall that had 2 full length windows. I was hiding between them reloading and getting some slowmo back. A soldier dove through the window in front of me. I killed him with a pointblank shotgun shot but and start to turn around letting myself come out of slowmo only to find another soldier that came through the other window about to blast me with his shotgun.

me = :x

One of the things that really got me was, when i used slowmo in a open area, lots of guys. Battling it out. Just when i think i got cover, killed a few guys, i stop my slowmo just to hear a guy flacking me last sec. Not only that i kill him turn around and see another guy crouching behind a wall taking peek shots at me.

Post away!

There were 2 soldiers. One above me on a catwalk, and one I saw previously that got away. Well, I couldn't tell where he went, so I decided to get in position to take out the one on the cat walk. As I was walking, the one on the catwalk just started shooting at me. He couldn't even come close to hitting me. So I popped around the corner, and shot him down. But before he dropped..the OTHER soldier decided to run around the corner and start beating me with the rear of his gun. Jerk.

Well as I already said in the other thread, It feels bad killing the soldiers when they shout for help and flee in panic :(
But anyway, ive got some nice situations with the AI. It definately need alot of space to really get into it's rights, its hard to do any amazing manouvers in a tight corridor. One that really got me was in the beginning of the game, im in a large yard with train cars, and there's about 6 soldiers coming from the door. Two crouch behind barrels and suppress me. I, getting pissed from the HP loss, decide to just fckit and go in with guns blazing. Sure enough, I get the first two aimers, but then I see a soldier in a room left of me. I quickly sprint my way there and lay ninja smackdown on his ass. This point I had already forgotten about the 3 other soldiers, which had flanked behind me and then followed me silently. Now I got three ****ing nades into the small room with only one exit, and ofcourse I try to bail out. No banana, two shotgunners blast me to hell :(
That was some nice ambushing.
But shit, now im late from class.

Wow we have to have a hater in every thread.

Name one game with better ai?

Point is even if F.E.A.R ai is predictable which i really dont see how it is. Name a game with better ai?

Stop taking away from F.E.A.R when you have no point to set. You have no argument. Its the best ai NOW in half a year it might look like shit. I mean look at FarCry, back when that came out the ai was amazing, now its nothing compared to F.E.A.R.

I know waht you mean by predictable but does it matter when it can happen so many different ways? They cancel each other out for the good.

So if theres nothing better it automatically means it's amazing?

Erm no. I'm not comparing fears A.I. with another game, the AI is just predictable in every way.

The enviroments got set up so it's easy for them to look smart with the minimal amount of work(wow large squares!) No A.I. in any game has impressed me yet.

The enviroments got set up so it's easy for them to look smart with the minimal amount of work(wow large squares!) No A.I. in any game has impressed me yet.Of course it's predictable, it's scripted to do only certain things. No A.I. is ever going to think like an actual human and improvise, so shut up and enjoy the well-made A.I. in this game.

Anyway, I thought the A.I. was fairly average in the demo, but it never really had that many instances to impress then. After playing the full game for a bit, it really is bloody amazing.

Firefights are very fun and very tense - my favourite instance of this is early on in the game at the section where the game tells you how to use SloMo (of course, by this point everyone's been using it non-stop, heh). About 6-8 guards filter into the area and I took some cover behind a crate that's off-centre to the courtyard. This would prove to be a slow battle, as everyone took some cover and fired shots when they could. A couple of guards started to flank me behind some trailers to my left, all I could do was take potshots at their feet which proved ineffective. They round the corner and start putting some heat on me, so I return fire. The other guards notice my distaction and hit me with grenades and move to my immediate right-hand side. I take a couple down and realise that I'd lose this battle unless I retreat sharpish. I round the corner and take cover behind a dumpster, not noticing that one guard had entered the building ahead and was moving round to behind my position. He creeps up and clubs me, and that's the end of me. Wow.

This game absolutely needs to be played on Hard or above. The firefights are intense, as only a couple of shots kill you. Cover really comes into play.

Thank you

It seems like you're just arguing for argument's sake. You admit that the AI in fear is better than in other games, and yet you still say it sucks? What are you doing on a Half-Life 2 site? Or any FPS site for that matter? Because if the AI in fear sucks, than you must absolutely hate the firefights other games. I really don't understand your logic.

How is it arrogant and idiotic? Everything I have said is true.

And can you please not bait me in an arrogant and idiotic way please.

And Kage, if you read his post and then you read my post it would make perfect sense, he said I should "sit down and shut up" I think fear overall was a poor game, if you just want a massive circle jerk thread make it private.

Ionize, I have said that the A.I. in games has never "impressed me" that does not mean I did not find the firefights in some games fun. Big difference.

John, I want specific examples on how HL1 is different from farcry, they both use flanking and squad tactics.

i've found the A.I. very surprising, myself. Also, Ben, if you didn't like the A.I. in FEAR then just don't buy the game. Maybe FEAR 2 will have much better AI that you will enjoy. You see, that is how I "vote" for gmaes, I buy them. Can you argue that Half Life 2 has sold so many units, or for that matter Counter-Strike? (if you want some A.I. in that game, it's one of the best.. playing against real human beings!) So go and buy CS:S. That will probably satisfy your hunger for better A.I.

Plz just stop posting in this thread. As you can tell your the only one posting here who doesnt like the game. If you dont like it why post in a FAN thread? Why ruin the thread with your negative and incorrect comments? If you have nothing to contribute to the thread why post? Make a site on how much you hate fear if your so hot about flaming it. NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR YOUR NEGATIVE SHIT! So please dont post here. That goes for everyone like him.

You can voice your opinion, but do it in a way where it wont start hate or a argument.

Thinking about it now you shouldnt have posted here in the 1st place. This thread is for people who played the game and have experienced the ai. If you want to post on how much you hate the game then post in the reviews thread. Dont ruin this one.

More than a couple times the enemy soldiers have flipped tables and used them as cover.

AzzMan: Yeh, but that's probably scripted as in "when a soldier gets into this area, he does this animation and this object flips like this". Still awesome though.
Anyways, even if someone thinks the AI is predictable and shit, you have to agree it's far better than what we've used to. So in that case, the AI _is_ amazing. Personally I think that the AI was far from predictable, I found myself cursing "how the fck and when did they get there" in many places. Also, they know not to assault a place blindly, but like to stay camping in groups. Which makes sense, they dont have to go anywhere.
Btw, I just played the bit where you first get to shoot the ATC Security guards again, and I cant help feeling so bad for killing those guys. They are only doing their job, and they keep shouting "HEEEELP" and those painful and agonized screams when they die :(

Are you using the slow-mo much? If you do, stop using it and fight the enemy without it. It can get really challenging when you are fighting fair. :)

Yeah, I agree.
One time I shot one of those guys right in his stomach with the shotgun, and he just got cut in half. It was pretty painful to see actually. :(
And it's not many games you actually feel sorry for the enemy you kill, but in F.E.A.R. you somehow do it. Probably because they are acting like real humans I guess.

Play some battles over, they don't always flip the same thing over or use the same things for cover. One time a guy hid behind a reception desk and the next time he went to a couch (I was suppressed this time) and actually turned it 90 degrees so it wasn't just against the wall so it formed good cover.

The AI in F.e.a.r., just like in Half-Life 2, is really dependant on node placement, and level layout. It seems F.e.a.r managed to get this done well, though.

I can't believe that just happened. I alt-tabbed out of the game just to post in this thread:

I come out of the side of a warehouse, and there's about four bad guys out there. To my left, is a trailer, a box in front of me, and an ally way leading away to the right. I get into a firefight, and end up moving to my left behind the trailer. (The door I came out of, is out of my view now, as is the ally way.) I flank those ****ers and waste em. But I hear foot steps on my right side. I quickly run around the trailer, only to see... nothing. I figure the guy ran either down the ally or through the door I came out of. (I was certain I had heard something.) I chose the ally, and bolt down it. It turns right, and ends up with a side enterence to the warehouse I was just in. I go through about two rooms, down a long hallway, and I heard more footsteps in front of me. I take a branch in the path, and wind up coming out of the warehouse from the door I originally left it in. (I was back in the opening, with the trailer on my left, the box in front of me, and the ally on my right.) Except, this time - I hear footsteps on my right, down the ally. I pull out my dual pistolas, and whip right. The guy was in the ally, running around towards the side enterence! I shot him in the back.

*Edit*

It's the area that Axyon is describing near the beginning of the game.

What had happened was I had heard him running down the ally, and I accidently followed him. I followed him down the ally, through the rooms, down the hallway, through the door, and back out to the ally where I had originally heard him. We were both going in circles. I was just a little faster, and shot him in the back. Most amazing AI I've ever whitnessed. =)

The AI is definatly the best thing about this game.

Just now I took out a room full of soliders and I hear this conversation down the hallway afterwards:
"Move in!"
"No ****ing way"!
