The question is do you trust Bush, who has failed miserably in everything he has tried, to handle this if an outbreak occured in the US?

Be honest here people, your family's life could be on the line.

the main thing here, is that scientists get enough funding, and can develop, and then create enough vaccine for as many people as possible. Most of this falls outside the power of bush.
But... from what was said in that article, looks like he's doing the very mature thing.
I was listening to some experts talk about this a few days ago, and they were going on about how many people this thing could possibly kill, if we weren't prepared for it. A couple billion people perhaps throughout the world, and mainly those in the more developed countries.
The main thing here No Limit, is that this is dealt with before any outbreak could occur. Vaccines, with the ability to be distributed to as many people as possible. If an outbreak did occur, and we weren't prepared(which bush seems to be trying to get people prepared), there won't be any help for those who are sick. They would day in just a couple days.
SARS, west nile, what will eventually get us.

But you are kind of missing my point. Do you actually trust Bush in doing all he can in this situation? Can you show me one example of Bush not failing in anything he has done?
Yes, I was actually shocked that Bush was even aware of this when I saw the article while looking for information for this but I am still not convinced that with his track record he would do anything thats effective.
You have to understand, this could spread as early as this year; flu season isn't even here yet and there have already been human infections. I am still reading up on this but it seems like it could destroy the human race if a large outbreak did occur.

What YOU have to understand, is that there is very little that bush himself can actually do. He can warn people about it, and he can provide additional funding to all the scientists that are working to develop vaccines and or cures for the virus. There's not much else he can do, in a more direct role. And from what I have already heard, he's already doing much of what he can do. Now he needs to make sure scientists get more funding.

And where is that funding going to come from? 200 billion for Iraq, another 200 billion for New Orleans, because of his spending we are broke. Now, are you going to point out an example of Bush not being a total failure in anything he has tried? Because when I look back at his life, in business and in politics, he has failed at everything.

Well except this disease... you have just about a zero chance of living unless you're lucky. Currently the virus cannot really spread around to other human hosts, as it kills its victims far too fast to do so... but if the strand should mutate, we might face that very real possibility.
SARs wasn't that big of a deal... but this could be huge.

Does it MATTER? Impeach the ****er if you deem it nessecary. All you are doing here is inciting more Bush hate.
He is what he is, and convincing the forums of a Half-Life 2 site that Bush is a miserable failure won't change anything.
No one is going to grow up in time to do anything about it, so ****ing deal with it or load up a Dragunov and take the guy out if it's that important to you. Shit, maybe you should concentrate more on what we should look out for in the future rather than whining like any other Bush hating democrat out there, complaining that he's ruining our country, like God is going to overhear the multitude and pluck him out of office.
All I ever see you doing in these forums is talk about why Bush is such a horrible president and that our country is crumbling to peices because of it.
Tough shit, cry baby, get into Congress and do something about it. And by the way, it's not too creative an argument if all you've got is cons.

I dunno about you all, but I don't plan on dying from any kind of bird flu, though I'd say it's a damn good thing Bush brought it up so that the American public can at least keep it in mind if people start dropping dead from it, and he's trying to give some reassurance, which is what president's are supposed to do
It's not his job to stop an epidemic though, it's FEMA and the CDC that are supposed to stop the spread of diseases

Ok, you missed that entire point, and made huge assumptions.
First off, I didn't say Bush was either a good nor bad president, or his decisions were good nor bad.

Wow, amazing, that's truly how all political arguments from henceforth should be done. Maybe you can do "Here's this guy, he's going to build a stronger economy by limiting funding to pointless shitty projects. He's going to usher in a new age of biochemical fuel alternatives as well as fund space technologies that might once ensure the survival of humanity for a billion years", instead?
And Kmack, you only reinforce the stupidity apparent in most of you band wagon groupies hoping to earn the respect of someone in virtual position, such as No Limit or CptStern.

? go to a gas station. look at the WMDs from Iraq (fyi you cant...they dont exist), look at ****ing hurricane Katrina, and that shit was 3 weeks ago
i dont have time to tell you everything, BUT, if you look at all my topics in recent history, they offer specific examples.
lets look at it from the environmental standpoint, just for ha-has
ahh, here we have quite a find! it seems to be...yes it is! a little bit o' environmental hating from Mr. George Bush since 2000:
Percent drop in federal lawsuits for environmental violations: 75
Percent increase in permits for oil and gas drilling on federal lands: 75
Annual savings to industry from Bush's refusal to mandate lead-paint cleanup: $3,000,000,000(yeah, thats NINE zeros)
Percent decline in federal fines against industrial polluters:60
Years since number of fines has been so low: 14
Percent decline in federal Superfund cleanups of toxic waste: 52
Acres of untouched forests opened to developers: 58,500,000
Endangered species that live in these areas: 220
Species added to the endangered species list by Bush: 31
Acres designated as wilderness by the Bush administration: 530,000
Acres designated by Ronald Reagan: 10,600,000
oh but wait! there is more! why, what happens if an individual state tries to help out the environment? lets read on!
The new fuel-economy standards proposed by the administration in August is not attacking gas-guzzling SUV's, but that other fuel-economy concern, California(please note sarcasm). California has ordered the auto industry to cut carbon-dioxide emmissions by Thirty percent by 2016, with eight other states to follow their example. Unfortunatly, upon flipping to page 150 of Bush's proposed standards, we see that state limits on emissions are "expressly preempted.
that was the fastest thing i could find, thanks for insulting me, but can we stay on topic.
Bird Flu, I think will be mostly hype

Oooh, so Katrina was Bush's fault.
he actual took the blame for the federal governments failures (which shocked me), so yes, according to Bush, the governments response to the hurricane was his fault. it was all over the news, cnn.com ranit as a headline when he took the blame, there is even a whole thread about it.
i think that he cant handle the bird flu disaster based purely on the response to katrina. an epidemic is a MUCH harder thing to face than a hurricane. but again i think its hype

You'd find it would create a situation like that anway.
If large amounts of people panic, infrastructure breaks down, people are trying to horde supplies whilst they stop coming in.
Basically you would have massive groups of people after something and being extremely violent.
You'd have to board up those windows to stop people looting you.....
take the recent example of hurricane katrina, across a whole country and then no outside leadership or help like with the hurricane.
It'd be a pretty ****ed up place.

Bird Flu is going to be one that most people will be scared of for a while..but SARS?? Canada had an outbreak of SARS in the Eastern part of the Country, but it was handled nicely and it was contained in a small area of the Country. So, I would not think that SARS is a big problem..if Canada can handle SARS, the US would have no problem with it..I think they did too when Canada was mildly infected.

couldn't they think of a better name for the disease?
ebola, marburg, hantavirus, HIV, SARS, these are all scary names that suit what they are describing nicely. I mean jeez, hantavirus, that sounds really goddamn scary.
but to die of "bird flu?"
lamest virus name EVER

I think a few too many people have been caught up in 'silly season'. There's no politics news because they're off for the summer, so the media has to do a load of filler reports. If you think that news networks are there to bring you news you'd be mistaken. Like many people in this world, they are driven by money are businesses like any other.
So don't start worrying yourselves. You'll face greater danger in a car, or crossing the road.

I like to live dangerously - I only look one way, I just blindly step into the other lane and hope for the best

Shit, I won't be able to eat my healthy oatmeal and egg cakes if all the chickens are put to the incenerator; I will have to resort to another source of less quality protein, like tuna.
