I have a budget of say £80-ish and I would use this card for my gaming and games development so I would your opinions in what kind of card I should get with my money given the uses I would have for it.

For that kinda money I'd get a X700 pro. Be sure to get an AGP card.

But.

If I were you I'd wait until the new line of Ati cards is out. That's gonna be pretty soon. Prices of the older cards will start dropping as soon as the new cards arrive.

If you can, I recommend that you extend your budget by £20 so you can get the HIS Excalibur ICEQII versions of the card as the cooler on those cards are so effecient and quiet.

6600GT is THE WIN. DOD:S on all high settings, no AA, and full HDR... yes.

FYI, the x700 was a mistake by ATI becasue it doesn't out perform any similarly priced card
(not including high priced low end cards 6200, 6600 ect)
even the theoretical x700xt (a mostly theoritical card) didn't out perform 6600GT

is a x700 much of a gain on a 9600

It will be a noticeable gain because it has more pixel pipelines, but it would not improve performance enough for me to recommend it.
