Pre-Load takes how long?

I dont understand this, a few days ago I went on steam and started to preload DOD source. However circumstances ment I had to turn off the computer soon after I had started the download. In the following days I went on the computer but never went on steam. And now I have opened steam to see it saying my preload is 95% complete!?
Is it a quick download (on 2mb broadband), or does it download even when steam is not running?

It takes ages with some people, but it's done in almost half an hour with others. Depends where the closest server is. You were probably a lucky one :p

Took about 30mins, no trouble with any stopping and starting.

i'm using a t3 line and i'm sitting right next to the valve servers
