Scotland

People living in Scotland are almost three times more likely to be victims of violent assault than in America. England and Wales recorded the second highest number of assaults while Northern Ireland recorded the lowest number.

The study, based on telephone interviews with victims of crime in 21 countries, found that more than 2,000 Scots are attacked every week — almost 10 times the official police figures. They include non- sexual crimes of violence and serious assaults.

Violent crime has doubled in Scotland over the past 20 years and levels, per head of population, are now comparable with crime-ridden cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg and Tbilisi.

Not surprising. People talk about being mugged all the time in Europe. And then don't report it. Hardly hear of it here.

remember this is just per capita percentages:

“booze and blades” culture in the west of Scotland which has claimed more than 160 lives over the past five years."

160 deaths in 5 years is a drop in the bucket in comparison to sierra leon, the congo, iraq etc

Northern Ireland lol that's a laugh. Have they seen Belfast recently?

OK, so one or two people might get beaten up in Scotland or England, in Northern Ireland they just shoot each other.

Honestly these figures are bullshit, they must have talked to people from run down areas in Scotland and England, or we're just more open to talk about it. Their whole method of gathering data seems suspect to me.
