I just bought a new PC and installed HL2 and CSS on it and it seems to run really slowly and lag constantly, but my latency in the game is always great (about 20). I downloaded all the latest drivers for my graphics card and the up-to-date version of directx. I turned all of the detail settings in the "video" tab of options to see if that helped but it was no different. then i tried different resolutions and 800x600 seemed to give perfect performance but the picture quality was sh*t!! i've also tried changing the hardware accelaration in control panel but no joy! can anyone help me!!
my spec is 3.0 GHz AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 512M RAM, 120 Gb HD, 128M radeon Xpress 200 series graphics card.

It's the first time i've heard about your video card, is it integrated on the motherboard?

Overclocked?
EXTREMELY overclocked. It's normal speed is something like 2 ghz. That might even be the problem. You'd need some pretty good cooling on that.

They can't even get a 2.8 ghz fx up to 3.0 without major non heat related issues.
Anyway, it's because you don't have a graphics card.

Hi there the radeon x700 shouldnt shit it self on half life 2 but when u have it on 8ant and 16anso then it laggs . problem!!!
when u have it on 1024x768 the 2 anti liazing the resolution works twice as hard like having it set on 2084x1600 sreen reso.no good unless u got a radeon x850
solution
disable the antializing or keep it to a minmum and all the antistropic filter doesnt makes that much difference all it does makes the furthur things more vidible.

if that doesnt work....:frown:
then try changing the direct x level
make a sort cut of css on desktop
right click properties
in the target box >>>"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 320
just a -dxlevel 70 to run on direct x 7 hardware .
i got 60fps on a radeon x200 on high settings 1024x768
thats a huge improvement comparred to 18fps
so it should look like this.
"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 240 -dxlevel 70
or
"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 240 -dxlevel 80
"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 240 -dxlevel 81
"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 240 -dxlevel 90

Hi there i got the radeon x200 pretty good but not good enought for hl2
this is what u do
if u dont mind the water details to look like crap them try this
create sort cut to desktop
right click properties
in the target box it should say__"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 240
type in this
"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 240 -dxlevel 70
what this does changes the level to direct x 7 improves the games performace
u will guranteed get 60 fps on 1024 on high settings trust me
if u wan to change it back just enter -dxlevel 90
glad to help
