"IMPORTANT: I cannot believe I just now remembered this, but when I was on the tour, Gabe told me that Steam would begin to send Half-Life 2 the game to individual's hard drives a week before it released via Steam. I'm assuming this is for people that choose in advance to get it from there. A Steam employee also told me that the material sent to your hard drive would he heavily encrypted, in order to prevent anyone from playing any of the game early. And obviously, people would be notified in advance that the material was being sent to their hard drives. If this is the case, then an announcement would need to be made no later than next tuesday (the 22nd) for it to be sent by the 30th via Steam."

They are not down, here Steam works normal... just playing CS in a window *headshot* - works perfect.... even logout/login works flawless... what are these servers for of not for serving CS?

One thing to note about this-it says this page last updated at 1104 am. As of now, it's 1208 pm. Could be that they're back up (as FriScho has noted that it's working fine for him) and they just haven't updated the page.

the chaos you're referring to doesn't affect valve, though...it only affects all the impatient people on these forums.
the best reason for a concrete statement would be that there wouldn't be quite as many stupid posts on this forum...
well there would still be many stupid posts, but at least they wouldn't be all saying the same crap about the release date.

^ gabe said that they were planning to release hl2 on steam 1 week before public release. It is now 1 week before sep 30th so it makes sense. However i dont think its uploading now that some servers are up.

Well, that's a little rude. I don't think HL2 is coming next tuesday, but nonetheless who the hell are you to say that they couldn't have been down for that purpose. Oh I forgot you're probably an adolescent male, and they all think they know everything... Oh well, who cares.
