Yes - Quake Wars is a standalone Battlefield-style game that uses a highly modified version of the Doom 3 engine. The game is essentially a prequel to Quake 2 as it takes place during the initial Strogg invasion of Earth.

This new normal map thingy used in DOOM 3 and Q4 reminds alot of the 2D games like Wolfenstein 3D :D

For me personally, I'm looking forward to Quake 4 because it continues the storyline from Quake 2. I was so angry when I found out that Quake 3 had nothing to do with the Strogg storyline from Quake 2 that I wanted nothing to do with the game - that and because I have absolutely no interest in multiplayer.

Quake 4 will continue the Quake 2 storyline as well as offering all of the multiplayer modes from Quake 2, Quake 3 and Quake 3: Arena (not that I care about multiplayer anyway).

Well QuakeWars is like Battlefield/Enemy Territory mix set in the Quake universe.

Quake4 is like the Quake3 we all know and love :D So many people still play it today, which is a great sign :)

If any of you are at QuakeCon, you need to go play Quake4... It's just amazing!!!!!!

The Strogg have more than one Big Gun...and trust me, Quake 4 starts immediately after Quake 2. Read any preview/article online and you'll get that right in the first paragraph.

Edit: Looks like they've finally sorted explosions and smoke effects for ingame. Why doesn't VALVe do something like this instead of using crappy sprites for fire and smoke?

Those are still more than likely sprites mixed in with particle effects.
