www.allmusic.com works rather well, though I wouldn't trust their album reviews, as a lot of the time the people reviewing these things don't know what the hell they're talking about. You can also find databases such as www.metal-archives.com and lyrics web sites like www.darklyrics.com - obviously these two are genre-specific; there are similar sites for other types of music.
