I think anyone in my age group: mid-30's would agree that this movie/soundtrack defined what it was like to be a teen in the 80's ...everyone should watch it

The defining music foor my childhood (im only 20) was Oasis- What's the Story (Morning Glory)- the album, that is.
Since that album, it's been all downhill from Oasis

I could name you a hundred songs but a specific album is pretty hard.
I'd say "This is a Long Drive For Someone With Nothing to Think About" by Modest Mouse. Every song really reflects our generation (and probably Isaac's life as well).

I'd agree it was Oasis, but actually it was Definitely Maybe that was the defining album :P WTSMG just rode on the success that Definitely Maybe had. As Noel himself says Definitely Maybe is the best debut album ever, and Whats the Story is the one that makes them all the money and pays all the bills.

All I can think of is Limp Bizkit's Significant Other. I can't think of a better representation of music in the late 90s then that. :p

Craigs pretty much nailed it with what he said, and mine was Oasis too.
Oh, and it`s not all down hill for them, check out their new album :naughty:
One thing that I find annoying is when a young American feels the need to show that they like Led Zeppelin. If you don't like LZ then you aren't cool and you have no taste in music and you might as well kill yourself.
I was watching that Room Raiders on MTV, because being an American it is my duty to watch these queer shows (plus for the slut factor). About every single one of them had an LZ album which would always attract the phrase "Led Zeppelin. I also like Led Zeppelin. You have good taste in music."
So just to have an LZ album makes them an aficionado. Asshats....

Probably all the bubblegum pop bullshit that dominated in the mid to late 90s - Nsync, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, etc etc. When I think about the music from my teen years, that's what I'll remember, unfortunately. Although, I admit, I do like some of that pop garbage. :p
omfg anyone remember 'barbie girl' by aqua?!?!?! :D I remember when that used to play on the radio every five minutes it seemed.

It's really different for everyone I'd think, we don't have a current mainstream culture right now, it's continuously changing.
Personally mine would be the entire works of Nine Inch Nails, as Pretty Hate Machine came out the year of my birth, 1989.
For me it's Metallica's Black Album, though me being 17 kinda means it wasn't from my generation i guess???
Anyway the defining album for me at the moment is Contraband by Velvet Revolver bringing Rock 'n' Roll back to where it belongs

I preferr the Stone Temple Pilots (Wieland) and Guns n Roses by them selves tbh. Far more defining in terms of musical style, importance and influence. These 'superbands' like Audioslave and Velvet Revolver are just souless money making schemes. Good on them tho, i guess.
