Well, I think I'm going to do some sort of Battlefield 2 machinima... it lends itself to it too damn well not to. Obviously it won't be till a while after the game comes out, but I'm going to need a LOT of people as extras and several people with microphones to consist of the main squad... and a server to film on would be nice too :O
Anyone want to help? I'll write and direct, and edit as well most likely.

Is it going to be a "Black Hawk Down" just plain shootout or is it going to have a plot?
Oh and make it gritty, not like "OMG UNITED STATES = HERROEESS!!"

Probably just going to be like, story follows one squad, showing how people can really work together in this game, with some dramatic and heroic moves ofcourse.

Yeah, but we should do it from an MEC or chinese perspective to break from the mold a bit

Noted! If any of you have a dedicated server you could run for the film for a couple of days that would be excellent. We'd need to set some server settings so there are no names above players, etc.
Also, anyone with a top of the line graphics card and two hard drives can film for it - run FRAPS on one of the HDs and BF2 on the other.

Count me in!!! I'm definitly buying this game.

Can't you just make a demo in real-time, and then FRAPS capture the demo?

I'd act in it and I have a mic.
I wonder if there's some coding that, with a little tweaking, could unlock the Battlefield recorder. That'd make machinma a lot easier with the demo.

I'm sure you don't need to tweak server settings, just client setting when recording.

Yeah man, by the way, thanks for coordinating today's crazy play session. Sure, it took us 4 servers but we finally got a good one :).

Why use fraps? Why not BFTV?
Gargantou
12-06-2005, 09:37 AM
What Foxtrot said, I plan on doing a machinima myself but it will be really short and will be a "replay" of one of my favourite scenes from Full Metal Jacket, the one where the camera men moves from right to left filming all the soldiers/tanks.:p
Also, remember in BFTV you don't have to worry about camera the first time around, seeing as afaik it makes a file that you can VIEW and move the camera around, play up in slowmo/ultra-fast(depending on your spec), you could just "play" a battle first, then make the actual movie using the BFTV file later.
But do also keep in mind running BFTV -will- put a large extra strain on the -entire- server, atleast that's what the readme Pi showed said.

it's funny, usually we get on a server and are good to go within a couple minutes.
it was a joint effort however from all those involved.
as always I love playing with you guys.

I've never messed around with machinima in BF, so we probably WILL use BFTV.

I'll need a shitload of extras for it so you all can :D
want to have front lines shown well, charges and all of that, 20 or so people on each side.... sechs.
Main problem is we're going to need a 64 player server custom setup so there aren't player names, etc.

Ennui

there should be a lot of general war scenes, and you can be doing that along with all the fighting.

I'll definatley do it, but as an extra because I can't voice act for my life. My email's ty274@optonline.net.
by the way, does anybody know what you hafta edit to shift the infantry mode to third person? Because itd be cool to have some third person infantry scenes rather than just all first person.

Two teams, one map, funny stuff...

hmm, yes. we could do two - one heavy war drama with all the intense gun battles you can imagine, and one comedy with noob chopper pilots, ritz driving jeeps, etc.

When you play back demos, you watch them all-seeing-eye style.
BY the way, about the music go here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000001GDM/002-7448695-7290405?v=glance), scroll down and listen to samples. Haha okay.
Have you ever taken a film class? Just out of curiosity. I have so if you need any advice on cameras, I know it's obnoxious but :P. Also, panning cameras with mouse = ugly. It's all jagged. Using a joystick or the arrow keys to rotate would be much better.
We could have a scene where the medic comes with the defilibrators: "200 volts! 1, 2, 3, CLEAR!" it doesn't work "Okay 220 volts!" etc... :D

Can we have a dogfight that involves the planes swooping down under a bridge and then pulling up vertically? Just looks cool, thats all :)
Oh, and we have got to have a scene with landing craft!
And whilst I'm at it, we could do a sweep with an apache at ground troops, but take it down really damn low, and some cheeky git sticks C4 on its underside. :D

I'm good at making chopper rols.
I want to be the american women who gets raped by NEC
anyway, I am getting the hang of the american jets, I once did a flyby corkscrew low on the carrier dek and happen to hit a NEC dude (who as I flew over ran across the dek) with my wing (because I rolled) and killed him
:afro:
wish the battlerecorder thingy worked then, ahhwell. I had some witnesses of the dudes who where shooting at the nec, and saw me roll kick the dude with the wing but I cant remember witch server it was on and I doubt anyone was bothered to remember, but it was cool. I really need to get me a joystick, cuz I can't stear as tight with the mouse then with joystick.

yeah. we'll figure out what map to use after release, but we can have some version of everything we've discussed. though we're not making it like an hour long, I think 10-30 minutes should be more than enough work.

Since I didn't see anyone taking an editing position, I'd gladly do it. (we'd have to use the BFTV thing so you could send the files easily, either that or get a site to host video/audio files). I have access to Adobe Premiere and have a reasonable knowledge of it. Plus now that it's summer time I have some time to kill. Woot.

I would like to be a part of this. I have only read the end few posts but it sounds like were gonna make a movie. I am not sure what machinima is but if we turn everyone into gay flying people shooting crap at eachother with incredibly unrealistic features then count me out. If we are making a movie however...I am a pro with flying and stunts if it needs to be done. Heck...I simply rock at everything.
