Voip does not appear to be working in the demo, I can't confirm this but thus far no one has heard me and I have heard no one, (in squads, and we all had mics)

Im playing in default settings, 800x600 and all options on Medium at a constant 60fps, looks incredible, and more enjoyable than both hl2 and BFV.
Im sure I can push it further, but I havent bothered atm

I have it as well. This is the first time I actually closed it.

Specs are:

AMD 2000+
1gb pc3200 ram
9600 256mb

Load times are fast. The very first load (after changing gfx options) is a couple min. After that they're nice and fast :)

I'm running textures low everything else med and getting smooth play.

The first thing I tried was a jet. Having played DC a TON (with inverted mouse) I almost crashed immediately because the mouse is not inverted - Same with helos.

Helo's are different from DC. The same control style is there. They are much less forgiving when swooping in. No longer can you just point straight down and recover at the last second. They'll take a little while to get a hang of but control is good.

Everything feels great. I dunno if voip works. There's a mic test in game and when you install but I have yet to hear anybody talk or reply to me talking.

Commander mode is in. It seems not many want to play commander. I played it and handed out some orders to squads. Scanning comes back every 20-30 seconds. Arty comes back every 45 seconds maybe.

Well.. back to it :)

Vehicles seem different from previous BFs, much more capable, much heavier... much much much cooler.. best vehicle physics ever.
Im dead serious... I flew a jet, and you can drop bombs or fire lock on missiles... awesome.. I flew a heli ... oh, closer to DC helo controls, but has an auto hover like BFV.

the online play on a 32 player server is the same as LAN for me on the 3 servers I have played... aka as fluid as SP.

the maps are brilliant, very detailed terrain, awesome geometry, and interesting structures. other BF franchises are barren in comparison

the weapons feel lethal, but not uber realistic, you can kill easily with them.

Welp i've been playing the demo for the past hour and its a GREAT game.

Pros:
Vehicles have a nice feel
Good ingame physics
Addictive gameplay
A bit easier to jump in and play
LOTS OF FUN!

Cons:
Ragdolls can be a bit odd at times
How to use VOIP?
Tapping a teammate with a vehicle results in a death.

I get around 60+fps no dips, I could prolly crank up the detail, but atm Im too enthralled with the game to bother.

it's not simmy like that at all, it's pretty much like it was in DC, except much better controls. you have a HUD, a very cool and effective Heads up display that shows your lock ons, if you are locked onto, etc, you can drop flares to spoof incoming missiles.
landing gear you don't have to worry about.
gears, nope.

it's just all around better, but still arcade style.. it's almost like a Airforce game you would play on your console, it could be it's own game without the troop combat.. all aspects of the game feel like that though

the infantry combat is very very cool, it's the thing I am having most fun with right now.

in BF2 you don't have to go camp planes and helos because the infantry combat sucks like in previous titles.
the infantry combat is tight, responsive and is an awesome game in it's own right.

Well I've just been playing it for the last two hours. Unfortunately it was only single player as the only computer with decent enough specs in my house hasn't got the internet.

Well, the infantry combat is so much better. It feels a lot better, a lot more human like - really impressed by it. The weapons also all pack a punch, great sound effects. The game run suprisingly well on a AMD Athlon 2200+ 1GB PC3200 RAM and a 256mb ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. Managed to run it Medium/High 1184x768 and it looks fantastic. I'm really impressed, definitely a step forward from BF:V/1942 - it's a true sequel.

Oh and the bots are much better this time around, they organise themselves into squads, call artillery, drop supplies, medics heal you up and revive you if they can, join a squad and the squad leader will order you about etc. Obviously the main part of BF2 is going to be Multiplayer, but I've been suprised by Singleplay so far :)

Can't wait till I get my new rig, then I'll be able to play online :D

I'm on the torrent that was posted in some other thread, I tried about 4 torrents in various threads on hl2.net but they're all the same file, so it doesn't matter which one you choose. I had about 5kbps for the first ten minutes but then it just boomed, I got 50, then 90, now it's cruising at 130ish after about 20 mins of downloading.

Redundant and I did kick some ass. Our commander took a while to give orders and was trying to play as a soldier ingame so we never got UAV's placed for us or any supplies but it was still good.

We had some solid teamwork going. I was a medic, Redundant was anti-tank or support, and the other guy was back and forth between classes.
Sniping isn't nearly as big as some people thought. At long long range it's hard to get solid hits let alone kills. Close up it's a little easier but if you don't get that headshot (it's easier to miss than you think) then they'll probably sprint to cover before you can get them).

I cannot wait 'till Xfire starts to have server information and ingame chat so we can all play together easily.

Rounds are short because of the 12 minute time limit but hopefully someone will be able to find a workaround so we can all have a solid match where one side actually runs out of tickets.

EDIT: My Xfire is trying to update "Game Updates". Think they're adding BF2 Demo support?

So far I've had the opposite experience. Lots of people leave planes on the carrier or runway in order to take part in infantry combat. There's been one tker I've seen and we kicked him.

When the full game comes with the stat system EA will have admins on servers and if you are being a jerk they'll kick you and if you're worse (cheating etc) they can ban your account meaning you'd have to buy the game again.

And by Xfire support I meant for Scroll Lock + X chatting inside the game.

4200 doesnt have the 1.4 shaders :( even if you were able to get in you wouldn't be able to play even on the lowest settings.

I don't think that's correct. I don't know what shader version my card supports but I know it can handle complex shaders and graphics-intensive games. If I can run Far Cry, HL2 and CS:S at max settings with visible rippling shaders all over the place at 60+ fps, then I can sure as hell run BF2, especially why the radeon 8000 series are supported, which are older, less capable cards. The least the program could do is error out telling me my video card is the problem. That's REALLY BAD programming and QC.

I just got through playing a couple sp rounds, and then created a local server just to try the 32 player map. I couldnt create an account to get into multiplayer though :(

The game doesnt like GeForce 4 cards, which I have. I'm planning on trying the old 3d-Analize lets make it think your video card is something else trick. You should download it and try setting your card to a 8500 or something.

I take everything I said back. I played a little bit of single player to tweak things, and then went back online. I was flying a helo with someone who had a working mic, it was amazing. I was swooping behind building (because when I fly a helo, I swoop...) dodging lock on missles, behind sand dunes, all this crazy stuff. But guess what. Two hours later, I quit and came here. After awhile, it got repeatitive. Plus, in Multiplayer, you can never get a vehicle unless you camp the spot where it spawns, there's a vast amount a TKers, and it's SO easy to die. Two shots, and you're dead.

The physics, however, are amasing. Nothing draws you in more than flawless ragdolls.

The graphics... well... I can't really say. I thought my machine could handle Medium (512MB RAM, 1.8GHz, 9600XT) or close to it. But no. I have to run it on shitty-ass low which looks like ass. Ass painting on walls. Oh, and the ass is old, not nice and round, but brown saggy and disgusting. I've seen movies/pics with High settings and they do look amasing. So... whatever... I mean, I can run HL2 and CSS on High setting flawlessly... 40FPS most times. BF2 is not more graphic intense than HL2. Seriously. WTF?

The gameplay is nice. The classes are balanced and the weapons are nice. I was looking forward to the M203 (Assault class... M4 w/ grenade launcher attachment) but it's impossible to hit anyone with that damned launcher. Plus, the gun is only Burst fire, which is annoying. The vehicles and fun to drive around, and are most of the fun I had. However, the planes and helicopters are IMPOSSIBLE to fly. Bah, I get fustrated just thinking about it.

Overall... eh, it's a nice game but... I dunno, I was just really let down. Don't take me wrong, this game is fun it's just isn't what it's hyped up to be.

It won't let me ****ing bind anything to Insert, Home, Delete, or End. If I try to it gives me an error box that says that a duplicate key was found in Common Controls, which it wasn't because nothing is bound to any of those keys. Which screws me over since I always use the arrow for movement and the keys above for reloading, using, etc. :|

You could change most of the weapons (except for sniper and shotgun) to single shot. I also suggest that when flying, use keyboard only. WSAD + Up Down Left Right

Q_onfused, you need to try another server because I had an amazing experience. The assault class is totally kickass and the nade-launcher is very powerful. But it looks like you should upgrade your system a little. On the server I played, there was never a shortage of vehicles or fun. So far I haven't been able to try all the classes but those I have are extremly fun.

The only reason I stopped is because I'm having a headache from playing too much.

I've got a SHITTY 128kB/s connection, which is ok for multiplayer games, but not for dling :/ I wanted to download overnight, but bittorrent gave me some buffer error (wtf?), so I'm stuck at 26% and the torrent doesn't even get my my max 17kB/s download. I guess I'll play tommorow, this evening if I'm lucky.

And I won't risk a http download, without the ability to resume the download, even though it goes at 15-16kB/s.

Oh, well, I guess I'll play GTA: SA in the meantime. Great game :thumbs:

you have to realize that a big part of this experience is the squad and teamwork aspect of the game. I really suggest you get together and work as a squad, I tried playing lone-wolf and it just wasn't as cool. when you work together with 2 people it's fun, when you play with 3 it's effing badass, when you have 4 it's like... CREAMY pants... when you have more.... well I haven't really had the full on squad experience, I think I would implode.

really, being with a squad, getting brought back to life via medics, getting ammo from support, working together to take down infantry... it's simply bliss.

I can't even begin to count the number of times Amish or Krynn stood over me as a medic and brought me back to life.

I love this game...Alan...I think Im replacing your role of commander because I ****ing own with it. VOIP works for me but some peoples mics are too soft or too loud. I have been getting #1 on every game I have been playing since like 9pm. I suck at planes and choppers but the rest Im good with.

Im running 3 settings on medium with the rest on high, 4x AA amd 93% draw distance on 1024x768 60hz. I have a radeon 9800XT 256mb, 1 gig of ram, and a 3.2 p4. I drop below 30 fps...a lot...but I barely notice it or I just got used to it. Am I supposed to be getting this kind of performance?

take off the AA or drop it some.

make sure lighting is on medium, no matter what rig you have.
I have everything besides 2 options on high (textures is on medium as is Lighting) in 1280x1024 no AA, and I get a constant 50-60 no dips.

9800 pro 128, p4 2.6ghz, 1gb 3200 ddr.

played it last night for a few rds in sp at about 3am, ran it maxed with 4aa and 16af(forced), res 1280/960, game ran fine, got the odd stutter when switching to ironsights.

graphics were good, though not spectacular, it was no far cry, doom or hl2, textures were poor upclose tbh. The odd clipping error, tank turrets going through buildings etc.

looking forward to really trying it today particurly online, hope it doesnt lag.

:naughty: Well, when you first try it, obviously you're probably going to be like,"What the hell!?" just keep messing with it for awhile and figure out what everything is for... then you'll finally get the hang of meeting squad leader's requests and just keeping your eye on enemy locations and know when to do artillery strikes and send squads to points where you want. Trust me, when you're chosen to be Commander and your team wins, you feel like a mother effin' badass... because Commanders really do play an important part, even though you'll probably see the least action.

After playing for a good two hours i've come to the conclusion that this is by far the best Battlefield yet. But with that said its nowhere near as good as people have been making it out to be.

Its definately not the be-all-end-all of computer games, and it doesnt come anywhere close to all the hype Gamespot has been building for it. Its a pretty game, and generally plays much better then any of the Battlefields, including Desert Combat. But with that said i still dont really see why everyone is flipping out about it.

In short: This game is basically Desert combat with a better engine and a few more tweaks.

I still think Operation Flashpoint 2 will shit all over this but with that said i'll definately keep an eye out for the reviews this game gets.

There was a great deal of teamwork present for a public server, and a few of us made a Special Ops squad and went on these brilliant covert missions - took a boat, boarded the US ship and took out the radar and a few planes. Great stuff :D

On the ship. If you played single player, you wont get it there. Try multiplayer.

I played afew more games, and we kicked ass, take back what I said, there are NO cons.

I was leading a squad, started as 2, but then grew to 6, the commander was issueing orders correctly, we where following them. We did very well, and the squad members where smart enough to say, if they had a jeep, to use it to collect stray members and to bring them to the cap point. Etc etc.

It was awesome...

I was just in a kick arse squad that stuck together, we took over all of the enemy control points when we had one left - and the even commander dropped us supplies and helped us with with artillery. The other 10 people on my team were busy doing nothing though :p

BTW, I love this game, the squad function works great (especially when everyone has mics) the graphics look awesome even on medium, and I get almost no lag when I play.

Yeah the helicopters hover a lot easier, if you just ease off the stick it'll automatically hover for you :)

Played commander today in a 64 player server, it blew, not because it wasnt fun, but because no one was listening to any order I gave, the radar and artillery where down, yet no squad I ordered to repair, would. So... commander mode is only as good as your team is.

Wow...just, wow. I finished downloading the demo from FileFront last night, but it was too late to really start playing. I got up at 7:00 and have been playing it ever since. (it's 1:20 here) Awsome game...just awsome. The planes aren't what I expected but I've gotten used to them pretty quickly. All of the ground vehicles are extremely cool...especially the tanks. The Helos are pretty hard to fly but I'm starting to get the hang of it. I can fly, or I can shoot, but I'm having problems doing both at the same time. The two classes I've played as so far (Medic and Special Ops) are both lots of fun and it looks like the others are great too. In conclusion...this game ****ing owns.

so what? did you know they are 2 different games? HL2's minimum spec is 1.2 ghz processor, 256 ram. BF2's minimum requirements are 1.7 ghz processor, 512 ram. it simply requires more than halflife2 and is less scalable like halflife2 is. thats life. deal with it!

For you having trouble with the flying, here is a tip that i think makes it 10x easier. Go to Helicopter\Plane controls and Invert Mouse. Then its basiclly like in Desert Combat...
