P4 3.0 or higher AMD 3200 64
2 gigs of RAM(not needed but wouldn't hurt)

How do you guys think it will run on a

P4 3.2GHZ
1gig of ram
9800XT 256MB

I plan on putting draw distance on 100% AA and AF on but not max, and most things on high and medium...what do you guys think? How can I make it perform better without spending 400 bucks on a new card?

BTW rename this to the "official will BF2 run on my comp thread"

Mr. Redundant
05-06-2005, 09:56 PM
just to add to this from the already painfully discussed system reqs in the BF2 thread

"How is the perfomance when settings/resolution is maxed?
What are the specs on the computer you're running it on? What resolution are you playing it on and how does it run?
Hey can you mention the specs of the machine you were playing it on, and what res you were using?

These are approximations, but based on the various systems we've played it on:

1.8GHz, 64MB video RAM, 512k RAM - 1024x768, low details (still looks good, btw)

2GHz, 128MB video RAM, 1GB RAM - 1280 x 960, medium details

3GHz, 256MB video RAM, 1GB RAM - everything maxed (the videos you're seeing)"

There we go then, IGN do know what they're talking about, and I'm greatly inclined to believe what's quoted above. It makes sense - BF2 looks nice, but it's no behemoth that demands bumpmapping on every surface and whathaveyou. Only being able to reach medium detail on current-gen cards doesn't make sense at all.

that is as official as we can get when it comes to performance (until the demo comes out and you can test yourself)

I think that this info should be stickied as a ton of people keep asking.

can i just add mine too, and see what people think...?

i have

P4 2.6
512Mb Ram
GeForce FX 5200... :(

But this is what i want:

1gb Ram
Nvidia 6800GT.

i have a dell 8300 pc, and i have no clue what types to get...

are there different types of 6800gt's? and different type of 1gb ram? if so what are the right ones for my Dell 8300.

thanks for any help.

I'm currently above minimum system requirements and the medium details system. I should be able to run BF2 okay on medium details.

I really should upgrade my system sometime in the future for next-gen games.

Geforce FX 5900 (not ultra/pro/mx/etc just plain jane 5900)

I hate playing games at less than 1024x768. I can put up with an fps of between 40-60. What do you think of my chances?

Also max draw distance would be good.

BF2 will run on my rig:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+

I'm just not able to use my rig now, due to 'circumstances' (short version: it's at home and I'm not).

Yes there are different types of 6800gts. The difference is in the companies that modify them. For example the XFX 6800gt is over clocked and have a custom heat sink (I think). Same goes for the BFG. Some just don’t bother and just have a few games with it. Need to check your PSU first though because I think you need like a 450watt PSU for a 6800gt.

For the memory just get a stick of DDR 512mb Pc3200. That should be it. Let me just check some facts out first. Then I will edit my post.

Also can someone help him as well because I don’t know that much.

Edit: Whats your budget?
Edit2: Any know if the x800 xl is worth it?

When it comes to gfx cards most of the same name are the same card. Sometimes they will overclock it or whatever but they usuall say that it's been over clocked or call them "golden sample" or something. As far as price is concerned, compare price to what you get. If you don't want a game that comes in a bundle, don't buy that bundle cause you're paying for it. I wonder if any companies are planning to bundle BF2, that woud be worth it, if you don't mind not having a paper manual.

As far as RAM is concerned 512MB of PC3200 from a well known company. I've always gone with Crucial, I dont like the idea of paying for a colourfull heatspreader. I'm just not convinced they are needed.

Ok guys I dont want to make a new thread but no one seems to be answering most questions being asked. I have a question for gorgon.

My friend has Dual 6800Gt's a 3.2 ghz P4 and 1gig of ram. Its an alienware aurora I think. He has everything maxed out in CS yet his fps is only around 50 and it also does not look as good as mine is maxed (I have p4 3.2, 1 gig ram, but just 1 9800XT). It also seems like he has AA off even though its maxed out. Very wierd how can I help him?

Ok, your friend has the latest drivers from Nvidia right? If so go into the options and make sure the settings are as desired. If that doesn't work try to see if there's an option to force the AA or AF. If that doesn't work, check the in-game video settings.

I only have experience with the ATi/Omega control panel and settings but I'm guessing that Nvidia has a similar setup.

Oh, and one other thing. What kind of monitor does he have? LCD or CRT? If its an LCD, it might need to be set to its native resolution. For example, the native resolution on my 17" NEC LCD is 1280x1024. If it set it to anything lower than that, it looks blurry and kinda jagged.

Hope that helps. :)

I dont know what your talking about in the first part. Im not very good with the subject at hand. He has an amazing monitor, I dont know what kind it is. I mean its flat but is nothing like an LCD where you cant touch it or see it at angles. His monitor must have cost him a fortune. To turn it on he just has to barely touch this metal tab on it, its not a button. Its so cool.

Even though you don't understand what I'm talking about, relay it to him and see if he knows. He should if he has a badass rig like that. :P

LCD monitors have really come a long way. Some have plastic covers over the screen part. For example, my NEC LCD1765 (http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/sc/30468947-2-440-overview-1.gif) has plastic over the front to keep anything from damaging the screen. Most new LCDs also allow you to view it from different angles and still see a clear picture. Does the monitor look similar to this (http://images10.newegg.com/productimage/24-196-004-01.JPG)? Or more like this (http://images10.newegg.com/productimage/24-116-229-09.JPG)?

They played on a 3.0ghz machine with a 9800Pro (i think thats a 128 mb card not sure please correct me) with more than a gig of ram and had full settings on. Lemme quote them

We were also very nervous about the game's performance, but it ran well at high detail on a 3GHz machine with an older Radeon 9800 Pro video card.

Wondering if i may need to upgrade my RAM for this game, se it sounds like it needs quite a bit. I have 2x512mb Kingmax DDR400, and only have one question that i want answered: My mobo is socket754 and only has 3 dimm slots. Is buying and extra stick of Kingmax 512 RAM to bring it up to 1.5gb going to make much difference? I know 2 gigs would be much better, but 1gb sticks are slow, aren't they? so im kinda limited to 1.5gb. (it would cost me about $90NZD (around 60USD, but don't forget parts are more expensive in NZ)

The recommended specs are 1 gig of ram. More is better, but only to speed up load times prolly. So I wouldn't invest in two sticks of 1 gig ram, but just in another stick of 512MB. I'm sticking to 1 gig myself for the moment. That should suffice ....

What headset should i get? It has to be from this site http://www.ascent.co.nz/search-results.asp or http://www.pp.co.nz/Headsets.php and i dont want to spend over 60 bucks NZ. Im keen on the logitech precision, but should i wait untill it gets back in stock? I need it for the 21st at the very least....:)

Horribly

Horribly

I think your joking but if your not I have already been answered by gamespot. They played the final version with a 3ghz P4 over 1 gig of ram and a 9800Pro 128mb and they played perfectly fine on high settings. So people like me who are stuck in the 2nd generation have nothing to worry about...hopefully.

I got the PC150's. Bought them through work (CompUSA) through their business sales department. Sound great, better than the platronics set I had before. I have yet to test the mice though.

Yes, it will ..... as long as you set everything to low. Medium or high settings won't really be possible, I'm afraid.

Just in time for BF2 - This just in:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836504001

This headset kicks ass!

Just came in the mail like 20 minutes ago and I hooked it up and tested it out. Had to boost the mic so it could actually be used in CS:S but oh man is it cool.

The vibration on the headphones is really sweet. There's an in-line dial for volume of the set and intensity of vibration as well. Sounds below a certain frequency are converted into vibration so bass lines come through nicely in music. Gunfire feels that much more real rattling my head and silenced weapons even give a muffled vibration that actually feels like it's silenced. The cups fit around my ears comfortably as well. Sound is certainly better than the speakers I have although I'm no audiophile so I can't tell you how good it is. It's a lot better for me :)

 Great headset

That looks pretty ****ing sweet dude. I used to use headsets but then when I bought my comp surround sound came free with it so I like the surround sound better.

But I hear headsets now have like mini surround sound...is that true?

I can definitely hear directional sound a lot better with this headset but I doubt it's actual 5.1. I know there are some out there that do have actual 5.1 though.

The Ti4200 isn't supported in Battlefield. It only goes up to shader 1.3, I'm stuck in the same boat as my brothers moving out and wants his 9600XT back that I burrowed :(

I'll be screwed for the demo but the week after I'm getting a new rig :D

AMD Althon 64 3000
1GB PC3200 RAM
Gigabyte GeForce 6600GT

Pretty cheap too :) It was actually meant for my (other) brother but he decided he didn't want it anymore, but I persuaded the rents to buy it for me :p

Why wouldn't he want that? That's a pretty solid computer.

RAM will definately help. On top of that upgrading the vid card would also help but I think you would be able to run it, maybe not the best but you should be able to run it.

Don't forget that vid cards are the biggest component when it comes to games. If you feel you vid card might be lacking then upgrade!

Should I get a normal mouse mat?

I'm just using the one my parents got from their cable company when they signed up. It's your average mousepad but it sticks to my desk better than most.

I spent $40 on this mouse and I wanna do everything I can to keep it in good shape.

No, everything but the graphics card is fine, but the graphics card isn't something that you can be lacking with. It just won't run without the right shaders.

Solaris

But Half-Life 2 and BF2 are using very different engines. You have to have the 1.4 shaders as the graphics will be trying to use it to render but it will be way too slow so it will be a slideshow. IDK too much of the specifics, I just heard it from some guy on the TS2 server, you need the 1.4 shader to run it and that is a fact.

Solaris

Hmmm are you sure my card cant do that. It outperforms other 4800s coz its SE.
