ok this is starting to get extremely confusing ..first we found out that Armed assualt is NOT OFP2 ...now comes news that the game we all thought was OFP2 is actually some other game altogether. Yup that's right ..that "OMG OFP2 screenshots" thread is actually screens from this untitled game:

not OFP2 (http://www.bistudio.com/presspages/pcpressrelease.html)

here's comments by blue of bluesnews:

"This Bohemia Interactive Press Release reveals a new military first-person shooter (thanks Tiscali Games) set in the near future. There is no title provided for the project, but we are told that this is actually the project that was to be Operation Flashpoint 2, though this is not confirmed anywhere in the release."

my question is ...wtf is OFP2? i suspect not even the developers know for sure

no it's not, not just yet:

"Bohemia Interactive has yet to find a publisher: the nameless game will at best be released in late 2006. Why is the game nameless? Publisher Codemasters has the rights to the Operation Flashpoint name, but Bohemia is no longer working with Codemasters."

Well there's going to be 3 games released as far as I know -

OFP XBOX - The XBox version of the original, updated graphics etc.
Armed Assault - A remake of the orignal on PC, updated graphics, enhanced multiplayer - and just polished like the first one should've been.
"OFP2" - Regardless of the actual name itself, it's the sequel to OFP. I read it'll be out in 2006.

EDIT - http://ofp.gamezone.cz/

Codemasters are going to publish OFP2 :)

http://www.codemasters.com/flashpoint2/

well it is flashpoint 2 :)

The main campaign in the game will focus on events from the Vietnam War in the late 60s, when U.S. forces in South Vietnam numbered over half a million. Missions will have players engaging in solo action; commanding a squad; driving military vehicles; or taking to the air in authentic helicopters and planes. Weapons and both military and civilian mobile units are being accurately modelled from period-specific military data.

relese date early 2006 ?

Who really cares? What really matters is if we get more of that rich and amazing gameplay that made OFP what it was. What they call it is something I could care less about.

Once again consoles **** up a perfectly good game franchise.

Reason? After the critical and popular success of OFP the decision was made to port it to the XBoX to maximise profits. However the fact that it's taken 3 years has meant that a grand total of no work has been done towards OFP2.

Needless to say the chances of OFP selling well on XBoX are minimal considering that the next one is just around the corner and since it won't apparently be backwards compatible punters won't want to be buying "old" games.

Now in an effort to save face, and more importantly money, Bohemia Interactive (the Devs) have come up with Armoured Assault. A piffling updated to the great but woefully outdated OFP.

****it all, bring on Enemy in Sight.
