Okay, I've heard about this game and it sounds aweseome. But I want to know if my system can handle it. I have a 2.4Ghz Pentium 4, Samsung PC2700 768 MB of RAM, Soundblaster Gamer, Sapphire Radeon 9600pro (OC:499/324), umm I have a 17 inch Samsung LCD, but I don't think that matters lol. Anyway, with the reg. Half Life 2 I've been playing at 1024x768 res and getting about 40fPS (Also everything set to medium and shadows set to low)... but I've heard that you need a really high performace system to run Aftermath... will I be okay? :stare:

...Aftermath has the exact same requirements Half-Life 2. You're thinking of Lost Coast

YAY! I wasn't the only one! :E
Yeah, it would be pretty weak if we couldn't play it.

Eber- Sometimes the expansions add in a lot of different effects and whatever other events that really do some damage on processor speed and take a lot more ram. Ever play any Thief 2 fan missions? Or even some mods of Unreal Tournament? Yeah, a lot of those take a bit more to play it than the original games. I remember running a mod called Thievery for Unreal Tournament on my old 733 celeron back in the day and getting MUCH more response and frames playing Unreal Tourny than Thievery. I had to turn ALL of hte settings down on thievery and still getting bad frames whereas I got smooth screens with all of the settings up on UT.
lol but valve wont do such

um... do we actually have to PAY? for the expansion or will it be like a downloadable mod?

It's 99% certain it'll be pay. I've never seen a company release so much for free. If Valve does they'll be loved by all :D. But they already are ;).

Though to answer any questions about that, no your PC won't meet the requirements for Lost Coast. It's only a little random chapter anyway. Whilst it's perfectly feasible that such a short mission could be reverse engineered into a playable, non HDR version, the whole purpose of playing the mission is to let your jaw hit the floor whilst you gurgle: "ooohhh pretty".

Expansions and Fan Missions / Mods are two entirely different things though (for starters, part time amateurs aren't paid professionals that keep code ultra-optimised and specs low), so Eber's point that Expansions don't require more than the minimum specs of the game that spawned them still stands (Though i'm sure there are exceptions...)

Heh, had to.
Anyway, why would anyone need to know if their computer can play it? By the time you get any game or level all computer equipment is more likely to have gone down in prices rather than up.

About 2-4 years after the original game. And totally optional, not to mention a totally minimal upgrade...

HEY!!!
:cheese:
No, I'd buy it right away (or first chance I get), then put it in and my luck I'll get and error like this while I'm installing: "Your graphics card is a piece of dodo. Please throw your graphics card in the trash and proceed to buy something less of a joke". :dork:
I have a laptop too but it's not really a gaming thingy. I don't plan to upgrade my PC any time soon. :bounce:
