Online petitions burn away into thin air given a few days/weeks. They make very little difference. But if you must...

Can anyone point me in the direction of a successful petition? thanks.

Edit/ It was to my understanding that the government (or whatever you have over there) always have the final decision and that decision sticks whether you like it or lump it...that goes for any country on the planet.

Sigh.... its so pathetic how teachers seem to think its video games that make there kids crazy and hard to control. May be they should look at the high sugar and fat diets they are giving small children at school.

The Columbine shootings were blamed on violent computer games, violent movies, rock music, Marilyn Manson and the National Rifle Association. What they should of blamed were the kids with mental problems.

Its not games, its not guns, its nothing at all of the sort, its because there is to much human rights and there is no punishment in the system anymore..., what? 150 hours community service is punishment? please! (this is in UK btw).

If one looks back at history, it's evident that every major medium had to struggle with similar problems. Books, paintings, radio and television; they have all been accused of being responsible for the downfall of society at one point or another.
Now it's the computer; a relatively new medium. The majority of people fear what they don't understand and hence are quick to blame what they fear. A fact is that the majority of people who use a computer to play graphically-violent games aren't incited to mimic in "real life" what they've experienced in the safe "sandbox environments" of games. It is only a very, very small minority of the whole game-playing population who run amok or otherwise turn extremely violent. The problem is with those individuals. They are having mental problems and their violent behaviour could've been triggered by any kind of expressive media. They lack a high-enough threshold against using violence that prevents saner persons from flipping out and turning into a danger to society. This problem certainly isn't solved by giving up or limiting the freedom of the majority of people to participate in and consume interactive games of violent nature.

Regarding the petition I have to point out that it is mostly directed at Germans playing interactive games and everyone is urged not to devalue the petition by entering false information.
In short, the German TV station ZDF (a non-profit corporation regulated by public law) recently aired two reports about violence in computer games that were obviously biased and contained highly-controversial opinions on the matter. The petition asks the station to treat the matter of computer and video games with fairness in the coming future, especially since the station receives compulsory, monthly charges from anyone who watches TV.

I won't give in. I signed the petition.
