Dammit...mid-June? Isn't the game being released mid-late June or July or something?
I was hoping for May demo.

It is in-game; look at the blocky shadowmaps cast from the buildings. There's also AA being used, but not enough to smooth out the aliasing on the edges of buildings.

Ehhh. Can't be bothered watching the vid's as i have faith in the gameplay of the Battlefield series. But i'm not sold on the graphics. Kinda look like Battlefield Vietnams except with soft shadows, normal maps and self-shadowing. The graphics still look really good but i'm still kinda iffy about them thats all.

Hey dude, you can come over and enjoy it on my computer! :P
The gameplay video looks and sounds amazing. Im really digging the gun sounds. I just read that a demo will be coming out in Mid-June. I wish it was earlier though.

"Official Release Date for Battlefield 2: June 23, 2005 (Ship Date: June 22). This date will be earlier for Europeans, it's estimated it will be June 17, 2005"
wha? that's a first (i think) usually europeans get it after the north american release. The should release the demo a month earlier ..as it is it's too close to the ship date

Arf can't wait for this! I'm a huge BF fan :)
Here's something interesting: look at this pic http://www.bfnation.net/images/news/melee/apr05/screen003.jpg in the upper right hand corner of each class selection, there's another weapon but it's greyed out. And here's another shot: http://www.bfnation.net/images/news/melee/apr05/kook.jpg you can clearly see the other weapon. What do you suppose you have to do to unlock these weapons?

Get a certain rank I assume. They have a total online ranking system. I suppose maybe once you get a certain rank with that class, you can use the better weapon kit. Sounds sweet to me :D

The ragdolls dont look that good. They still need some work. It looks like there moving in slow motion all the time...

What do you expect? HL2 style ragdolls. Can you imagine 64 people playing on one server with those kinds of physics? Major slowdown. Its better than plain death animations.

The ragdolls are fine.
As long as tank shells cause them to fly across the map, they're great.

edit:
man i just watched the 'gameplay_march05_nl_hi' vid and it was awesome, the weapons models and character models look great, seeing a grenade go off and a guy flying through the air was awesome, im pretty hyped for this, hopefully it wont lag like a bit*h like ive heard other bf games can do.

yes, yes i do. HL2 has spoiled us and now makes all other games look bad.

Weren't really any serious netcode problems in BF42 as long as the server was decent. A lot of people seemed to have confused the way the guns work (you have to lead) for some sort of lag problem.

yeah, bfv is fine if you play on a server within your own country or one that's close. Point of Existence (the present day mod for vietnam) gets quite laggy, but those maps are huge, and were with the vietnam engine that wasn't designed for such large spaces.

same here. The bfv ragdolls are even acceptable- its not a part of the game i find to be major.

"Here you can find the Battlefield 2 system requirements given to us by DICE:
Target Minimum Specification Machine:
1.7 Ghz CPU
512 Megabytes of RAM
128 MB video card (must support 1.4 shaders)
Recommended Specification Machine:
2.66 Ghz CPU
1024 Megabytes of RAM
256 MB video card"
quite steep alright, i meet the recommended.

i only have 512 ram and 128 mb video card ;(
games always run really badly on the minumum specs

yeah that conclusion is generally true, usually minimum means what you need to run the game on low settings basically, still seems quite steep, ea usually make devs make their games highly scaleable as ea has that casual gamer thang. :dozey:
edit: reading that sites forum it says
"And the latest video from EA says the graphics will be scalable for many systems.
He went on to say people wanting to turn everything to max will be building P4 3.0GHz's, and a COUPLE GIGS OF RAM! Yes, he said 2 gigs, a couple is a pair, dos, two.
Now keep in mind they are marketing this game as 64 players, so that alone requires a massive CPU. Most servers will be the standard 32-40 we see now in DC I predict."
also would a 512 broadband connection be enough to play on a 64 player server with a good ping, the min says 32 player servers.

:O Gone are the days when my gig of ram was plenty ;(
jimbo118
02-05-2005, 03:40 PM
but i thought having 4 sticks of 512mb ram is infact worse for performance, its says a gig recommended anyway, i dont know what would warrant 2 gigs.

:( I am barely above the minimum requirements. I hate having to turn down gfx. I doubt the 256mb on my 9600 will help me out much when I only have 512 ram and 2ghz cpu...
