There's a nice way to make Gordon come back without story inconsistence

Make the Combine try to kidnap him from ... wherever he is.

The Gman/whoever would intervene and you fall right back into Alyx's arms.

My idea would be something like ;

FLASH

a COMBINE ADVISOR appears from the dark surroundef by two SYNTH TROOPERS

Combine Advisor : FREEEEMAN! [or]
SLAVE!

FLASH

Gman/whoever appears

FLASH

Gordon freeman is back to the Citadel. Alyx is near. a HUGE EXPLOSION takes down a few Synths nearby.



What do you guys think ?

Or, From blackness you fade back into the game, still in bullet time, then the explosion is sucked back, or even 'rewinded' back into the portal, except breen is gone, nowhere to be seen.

That would be total unexplanation to the max. I wouldn't mind it much, if there was some sort of tip later on to what happened, but it would be hard to make it make sense.

I came up with one:

It starts with constant flashes against a black surface, the Gmans face appearing between each flash, it finally flashes once more and you in the reactor chamber, time is flowing normally

Alyx: "Come on Gordon, maybe we still have -"

The reactor explodes, causing Alyx to be lifted off her feet, sending her flying backward into the control room and down the corridor, the suddenly stops, the only thing moving is the spire on the citadel, falling toward the chamber, in an instant the explosion is sucked inward and shoots upward from the reactor as the spire collapses on the control room.

It flashes again, the gman is now smiling. As the flashes stop you get a view of the top of the Citadel, nothing happens for a moment.

Mossman: I wont leave you again Eli....

Suddenly the top of the Citadel simply explodes, the dark energy crap spouting upward....

The sceen flashes again for the final time, the Gman cant be seen...

"Time, Dr freeman? Is it really that time again??"

Gordons sight returns, he's lying in a ton of rubble, Combine soldiers dead all around him...

To save you from the explosion that almost killed Alyx, and he simply says to you that you will figure out the stuff he is meaning whilst your on Earth, thats when it will become apparant to you. He just wanted to say his last goodbyes for abit ;(

maybe g-man didn't unfreeze time and then holds a conference for who wants to bid for gordon;
you wake up but can't move you are moving forwards towards a large round table consisting of g-man, eli, breen and some other people,
"ahh Mr Freeman, glad that you could join us(fades out)"
you fall unconcious,
sounds start to form; alyx's voice "Come on Gordon, maybe we still have -", the explosion happens, again, you and Alyx are thrown back into the control tower, black screen, Alyx's voice; "gordon, Gordon are you alright, thank god your alive... " you wake up, stand up and see the explosion sucked into the combine portal.

G-mans superiors decide to erase freeman, so G-man releases you before they can get to you and tells you that from now on your on your own.

Something similar could also be done with shepard.

I think the start of the expansion will be a huge run through the complex down to safety with Alyx and the others. Or they'll jump onto a strider and strider it out :D

I think that the portal explosion in the end of HL2 was so big (the energy it created, or something) that GMan couldn't keep Gordon in this odd state he likes to put him to ;) and Gordon is brought back to the same place and time.

The explosion also could not be a normal explosion - maybe it was an energy blast that didn't hurt biological organisms? Or it didn't expand further than what we see in the end, the explosion stopped and quickly receded? Argh, I feel like just a few weeks before HL2's release ;)

I still don't think Freeman should come back for Aftermath... his best bet is HL3.

Anyway...

I like the idea of contineously replaying the explosion. Only, everytime, the explosion happens, the gman should flash in front of ye and start speaking quantum at ye.

Then your be'n pulled along in a prisonor pod in the remains of the cidadle to a room with a big round table in the middle with the gman and other people talking about bidding on gordan. After they murmer for a bit Gman gets out a gavvle and bangs on the table and says Agried and your taken to the start of Aftermath.
