Gordon and Alyx survived the explosion. Now they fight out of City 17. One screenshot shows you with Alyx in City 17 streets with an Ant lion guard (the big one) and a Combine Metrocop. Alyx is firing at the Ant Lion. The Citadel is still standing.

The idea is that with the Combine failing, all the locked gates have been unlocked and City 17 is in a bit of chaos. Lots of things are speculated.

Also, there was a interesting snippet on The Lost Coast. It said minimum requirements is a 3.2GHz processor, 1GB of Ram and a top end graphics card! Wow.

he mentioned in the article something about antlions changing sides. Does anyone reckon that the combine will fight with u because the city is being bombarded with enemies and the combine see the bombarding enemies as a greater threat than u and dont attack you.

Perhaps they have implemented a variety of the CSS bots, who don't use preplaced nodes to navigate around, and take a huge chunk of the CPU. Would be nice though, not that HL2 AI is bad, not at all, but that would be a nice step up :)

Isn't the rule that 'anything Valve makes you are Gordon'. That's why Gearbox made HL expansions that didn't feture him?

Its quite possible you wont be Gordon. He could have been taken away by Gman again, and it could be Barney and Alyx fighting down on the ground, but then if Alyx went all the way down from the top of the citadel, then so could Gordon right? I had a theory few weeks ago that the portal blew up and the explosion on the top of the tower also sucked in the explosion to the combine world, so basically city 17 just gets a little bit owned by the intial blasts. Although im not a big fan of Adrian, its possible he could be brought back by Gman. (or not hehe, Gordon woot!)

Also with all the animals on the outskirts of the city, was the bullsquid (in the leak and raising the bar story pages) so im hoping for some new enemies, as well as maybe some new guns. And possibly cremators. With the creatures killing the rebels and combine, theres gonna be someone killing the aliens and cleaning up the mess. So i reckon thats a likely possibility. I wanted more Aliens in HL2, and i guess that we are gonna get them now. I can't wait. And as ive always maintained...i knew Alyx would live.

I don't see any problems with that, im thankful for what we are getting from valve most of the time. I just read the DOD bit...this Adrian Finol guy sounds like a god, he made HL2DM...my idol!

huh?.... why, HDR wont need mega super computers, it comes with a bunch of settings, like on that HDR demo with the skull, you can surely optimise the setting comprimise with performance whilst still producing lovely visual's. maxing out HDR settings, reflections, AF, and light filter's makes it ultra nice, while it sucks your frame rates dry, valve will include different setting levels, so you can experiance HDR on varying levels of hardware.. dont think for a second that you need a beast of a machine to get some decent framerates :) , basically dont worry.

That's the whole idea of Lost Coast, i.e. it'll only run on machines that are of the highest spec available. To complain that they're too high is to miss the point.

It's not the engine that takes up space, it's the content (maps, textures, models, sounds). The engine itself is ~1% of the total dl size. (look at the bin directory in your steam folder, it's not even 20 megs)

I was worried it would be over a year until we got an expansion. I am super happy about this. I also can't wait for Lost Coast, and anything else they might have somewhere down the pipeline with HDR and super high res polys. I would assume that by the time they make Half Life 3, HDR will be standard for Valve content.

Actually now that I think of it playing as Gordon isn't such a bad idea, you would wake up 5 minutes after the gman says "this is where I get off" meaning the gman left you to escape by yourself after completing what was assigned. You wake up in that room where you see the advisor with Alyx and things seem alot more peaceful, this would be the area for people to adapt to the game (for some reason all hl games have one) You, Alyx, Eli, and Mossman would now have a climb down the citidal, probly fighting some synths along the way. The rest of the game would be using teamwork to escape c17, after meeting up with Kleiner, Llamar, Dog, and Barney.

I think the Metrocops will be on our side, with the fall of the citadel and everything they are civilians afterall....I think there will be an invasion of aliens, including some new (old) ones such as the bullsquid and we must fight ourselves out. To get to the train station, or some other transport system or hideout.

I think the resistance could really use the help of the metrocops. The world is quite dependent on Combine technology when it comes to surviving the Xen aliens. They could use all the help they can get.

thats a good way of interpreting it while not completely spilling the beans on HL3.
i have come to think that Gordon just doesn't belong in expansions just because he is the central character in the main HL games.

playing as another character gives a fresh perspective of whats going on and i think Valve doing this would just make the HL universe and story that much more convincing/memorable.

*Edit* We could play as Gordon, the G-man may have put him away just long enough for him to avoid the explosion, and then put him back in the remains of the citadel with the words "Aw, what the hell. Have some fun. You've earned it."
