I really have started to like these space combat games that arent a pain in the arse to control. Im trying to find one that has alot of upgrades for sheilds and weapons and such hehe.
Suggestions?

Haegemonia is a nice oldie. Not too old to make you scream in terror at the lack of GFX though.
Quite easy to get the hang of, and yes it has all those nifty upgrades like planetry sheilding and defense space stations.
A simple RTS overall with more attention payed to combat than to resource gavering, which is done through mining rocks or simply taxes from your planets.
Well I liked it anyway.

The controls seem daunting at first, but they're actually quite easy. I didn't particularly like this one. Too little interaction for me.

Nexus was to short and really didnt have you do all to much. More like a movie than a game.

I liked freelancer's mouse based control system a lot. Too bad the rest of the game was rather shallow. They should've worked on it for another year or so, but that's a luxury you don't have if microsoft is your publisher.
By the way, I don't know of other games like it or I would be playing them right now.

Well I got into EVE Online a while ago, its actually a MMORPG but set in space - space trading / fighting / whatever, and really enjoyed it.
If you can find it in shops you can pick it up fairly cheap and the monthly fee isn't too expensive.
