What do you guys think is the worst music genre ever? Id say either country, late 90s pop, or rap.

I like most any kind of rock. Beatles are one of my fave bands ever.
Entire genres that blow, save for a few exceptions: hip-hop, pop, soft rock, pop-punk, ska, indie, and new wave (shudder).

I think that all of ska blows.
I think that most (99%) of punk blows.
I think that most (99%) of rap blows.
Rock, as it is today, isn't even worthy enough for me to whipe my ass with.
And despite my love for electronic music, I think that subgenres like Trance, Hardcore, and all that monotonous "dance" shit you hear in clubs and on TV should gag themselves with a ****ing spoon.

No way does the entire category of punk blow. It's at least 100x better than rap. Bands like Nirvana, Mudhoney and the Ramones are awesome. But yes, rock music today does indeed sucks donkey balls.
Punk doesn't deserve to be next to the likes of rap in this thread.

I agree, but Nirvana is not punk. It's grunge.
Country sucks balls. Some rap is okay, most rock is bareable.

#1 - Rap. a.k.a. Retards Attempting Poetry.
#2 - Hip-Hop.
#3 - Generic Pop, i.e. Britney, Christina
For those top three, it's not the genre itself that sucks, merely (∞-1) of the artists within each of said genres. Rap has Kyprios, Hip-Hop has K-Os, and Generic Pop has - oh, wait. :frown:

How can people actually debate about this? Music is all about personal preference, and not really anything else.
Also, I think I've heard awesome songs from every genre ever.
Atmosphere makes rap awesome.
Murder by Death makes country awesome (but they've got a lot of indie)
and stuff

My top 3 worst genres are as follows and why I hate them:
1. Rap (some songs are funny, but other than that, it is a sad attempt at music)
2. Emo (these 90 lb, prepubescent-voiced kids need to stop whining and get a life)
3. Tie between new-punk and brintey spears pop (this punk doesn't have s**t on Rancid, Lars Frankenstein, The Clash, Sex Pistols, or any of the like. Instead, punk is seen as some kids who like to skateboard and hate their parents because they want to be a cool rebel and prove something. As for pop...who ever thought of this genre should be smashed in the face 30 or 40 times with a golf club)
Everything else, I like. I range from death metal, to 70's funk, to grunge, to softer type bands like Coldplay and Radiohead.

All that "We're hyped up on E's and cider, can you feeeeeeeeeel the rushhhhhhh. Im a raver!" shit. The chavs play what sounds like the same track, although they say its different, repeatedly in one of our lessons at school.
i'm assuming most people on here who say they don't like dance/trance/hardcore have never actually heard any actual trance or hardcore songs, and are basing their opinion off the 'songs' that get released on the radio. The problem with these songs that get released is that they are not anything like the genre they're supposed to represent; the key point being that every time they'll released a crap song, get some britney-alike to sing the vocals, and then remove the drop - the drop being the key component in the dance genre.
Chavs might listen to some hardcore, but from experience they do it to look cool, and actually know bugger all about the genre. They spoil everything though don't they? W*nkers.
While much of the early clubbing scene in the 90s was based around E, it is certainly by no means a necessity to enjoy the music. I've been listening to hardcore for about five years, and hadn't touched class As until a few months ago. Hardcore is one of the most diverse genres of music around at the moment; there's some tunes to get out and have a good stomp to, some ones that incorporate a trance drop in the middle, handbag hardcore to get some 'proper instruments' in there, and freeform to splice techno, trance and hardcore together.
On top of that, hardcore events are great. Why? Because of the mentality. Unlike rap, pop and hip-hop, the hardcore music scene is not about material wealth, about being better than other people; its about respecting eachother, peace, love and unity and all that. The only people you'll see fighting at a rave are the unwanted chavs who sometimes come along. I've never once seen someone not wearing burberry at a rave in a fight - never.
Sorry for the rant, but it does annoy me that so many people say they hate it, but from experience few people who say they hate it have ever heard anything more than DJ Sammy, or Scooter.
My least favourite genre?
Commercial dance: It goes against everything dance stands for, sounds shite, and introduced the chav culture to the scene.

Well said burner. I call the bitch-bimbos that sing to the vocals "Trance Whores". Oooh it stops me from listening to radio 1. I used to listen to the Dance Anthems with Dave Pearce, when I was a little younger, but going back to it now, it seems as though I never stopped listening to it. I find Breezeblock is the only choice for radio listening. And even then I have to stream it from the BBC website (its on way past me bedtime ;) I'm more into the Chemical Brothers' and Prodigy's dance music though, I am open minded towards most music, but I tend to stay away from any radio station other than 3 at the weekend (or any time really - cos then you get all the non-dancey stuff that suxsxsx).
Noise.
There is actually a genre called noise.

There's a time and a place for early '90s dance music. It's called the early '90s.
Very true. You'll only find Old Skool tunes at old skool arenas in raves, no where else. Dance music (A very broad term I don't like using - like using 'guitar music' to cover hard rock, death metal, accoustic, etc) is nothing like the 90s stuff.
The dance genre is changing a lot at the moment, and is very different from what it was like five years ago.
Most of the dance songs being released today are corporate mess-ups of several year old happy hardcore tunes. Discoland, fly on the wings of love, children of the night, all that sh*te that came out are just rehashes of very old songs. People just after making money cannot make dance tunes.
I think we can agree that the radio is really crap for discovering good music.
If we believe the radio:
Usher is a bad boy
Busted are the epitimy (sp?) of Rock
DJ Sammy is a top DJ
Eminem is one of only a handful of rappers
There is no such thing as alternative music
There is no such thing as Hardcore
There is no such thing as ambient
There is no such thing as etc etc....

I don't think I really hate any genre of music... I mean, yeah, there's songs that I can't stand, but I think I could find something that I like out of any genre. Hmmmmm.. though, I really can't stand metal/rock too much anymore. I used to listen ONLY to metal/nu-metal when I was in my mid-teens. Here I am at 21 listening to 80s/90s Pop and techno/trance... the stuff that I despised 6 years ago. :P
