They have the new Zelda Trailer in full up at Gamespot.com...it's on the front page. Absolutly stunning. The sequence of Link swimming shows off some incredible water shots.
I have a feeling all three next-gen consoles are going to have wireless capabilities, but it's great to see the big "N" coming off their previous stance of limited online play. Great news.
I was also thrilled about the DS's growth in full online play...truely awesome. You know that Metroid Prime Hunters and Animal Crossing DS are going to be great online.
The backwards compatibility of the Revolution may finally crush all the rumors about the next GameBoy being a portable GameCube. That's great news also. It's also good to know that the Revolution will be on line with the PS3 and XBox 2 with both graphics and sound as they said that stuff is to be expected. May not be equal, but close.
I can't wait for E3, I think Nintendo is going to have a hell of a showing especially with word of Mario 128 finally getting a showing as well as the Revolution and more Zelda....plus they apparently have a surprise for everyone.

Zelda looks amazing as ever! Nice water effects too. Im glad they chose to go back the older Link.
The Revolution sounds very promising with their backwards compatibility. Im also glad to hear that ATi is developing the graphics chip. Im an ATi fan.
Thanks for the info. :bounce:

Agreed.
The wireless network sounds fun - playing DS games online would be very cool.

Nice graphics but the AF and the AA are horrible.
Wireless gaming between the Revolution and DS could prove to be absolutely phenomenal. Online play is also excellent, of course, but I think that combining the DS with the Revolution was a superb move. I have a feeling that they may even interact in such a way that makes them essential counterparts, though we won't know for a while.
Zelda is of course absolutely stunning. Some of the art design is excellent, and the character animation is probably the best I have ever seen in a console game.

Not usually a problem on a tv - it's on monitors where jagies and low framerate etc looks awful.
Also, I was thinking the same jimbo - especially in the last shot, very 'Ico'.

Also, anyone with a HDTV knows how much progressive scan can help those issues in some games. They really do get smoothed out quite a bit imo.
Plus, most people don't sit as close to a TV as they do to a computer monitor. Sitting back a bit makes a huge difference. I use the rule of 3 when setting up my home theater....I have a 41" Panasonic and I it back 123" from the TV. Makes a world of difference if you can manage it.

has there been news of any kind of physics system in the Zelda game?
Also, now that we have the news that Revolution will be backward compatible with GCN, what could the "big innovation" of the Revolution be? Obviously it will still be able to play games in a standard form or else it wouldn't be backward compatible. It seems like the most likely place for innovation would be the controller (or lack thereof), but I was hoping for more of a revolution than just some kind of whacked out controller.

Perhaps virtual reality. Like a helmet you wear, and you just use the controllers to play the games and you see all the video inside the helmet. That would be amazingly awesome but it won't happend.

Yes, I did. I complained about it for a while, but now I don't mind it. In fact, I think some of the LOTR stuff really complements the Zelda world pretty well. They could have been inspired by worse things.
Warbie
11-03-2005, 05:07 AM
It looks as though they were more inspired by Games Workshop than LOTR. Actually, if we're going that route, LOTR 'borrowed' a massive amount from GW (far more than Zelda)
Somone's always been there before. What matters is how good the game/movie etc is in the end.

Warg riders? Those aren't wargs. They're more like giant warthogs.
Undead? Zelda has always had ghosts or ghouls of some sort. LOTR did not invent the undead.
Where's the Nazgul?
What's a Shelob?

Anywho....this latest reincarnation of the Zelda universe could in fact be the greatest....any thoughts on the premise??? I was thinking another beefed up remake of the original story with some added twists. Any thoughts??

It certainly looks fantastic. Nintendo know full well how important the Zelda series is to them (Mario is no longer their flagship title) and will do their upmost to make it as good as possible.
If the new Zelda title is anything less than fantastic, and GOTY, then i'd be suprised and dissapointed.
Another 'OoT' would do just fine :)

But...there was a big spider in Ocarina of Time...
:) There's been a big spider in many, many things (it being a staple fantasy monster)
Zelda hasn't copied LOTR. Its copied the sources LOTR copied (just to less of an extent)
I'm positive there will be far more originality in the finished product than you'll find in the LOTR movies (not taking anything away from them, though - all 3 were fantastic :))

I've been reading around the GameFaqs forums and popular Zelda fan sites and it seems that a LOT of people are disliking the new Zelda game. Lot of people claim the graphics are weird and copies off of LOTR. Mostly they don't like the "Darker" theme to the game saying it doesn't fit the game at all.
Zelda Legends (Fan Site):
In closing… I am unhappy. On the surface, this game looks very cool. But over the course of writing this, I’ve looked more closely at every part of this trailor, and what I see worries me greatly. Why? Well… this game looks like it’s stylistically dead. It’s lifeless. We are going from the odd and unusual (and commonly disliked, for whatever reason) but unique, colorful, and stylish graphics of the Wind Waker to a generic fantasy style, complete with an overdose of undead, a lack of color, a foolish focus on the lighting effects… it’s gone from a unique and beautiful style which was disliked by the majority, to a clichéd and needlessly dark and LOTR-like style which will probably be liked by the majority.
I hate our society.
This is kind of worrying me. As corny as this sounds to a lot of people I actually consider Ocarina Of Time my favorite game of all time. Never has a game kept me interested as OOT did. I liked that game more then basically anything and I never got bored of it. The story was so good that is kept me drawn to the end. Majora's Mask came out which was good but not as good. Then Wind Waker came out. Again it was a good game but I prefer the Realistic approach better and the story wasn't nearly as well thought out as Ocarina Of Time. I have waited over 7 years for a game that would take Ocarina Of Time's seat or at lease be near as good and finally it looks like Nintendo has answered my prare. I have not been this excited for a game since OOT and seeing comments like the one above saddens me. I actually think I am one of the only people super super excited about this game. Everyone just keeps ripping on it calling it a LOTR or OOT ripoff. Nintendo is dyeing and everyone here knows it. I thought this would be the one thing that could set them back on track, but truthfully even GameSpot and IGN said that they prefer the Wind Waker's Cel Shaded graphics over the new style. Not many are happy for the new Zelda and it looks like Myamoto's attempt to bring the franchise and Nintendo back to life is going to fail. Anyways just my 2 and a half cents.

I'm still excited as hell for Mario. Sunshine was a great title and I'm extremely interested in what Nintedo has for the true sequel to Mario 64. Has anyone heard if the next Mario is GameCube or Revolution?? I'm assuming GameCube.

I'm going to make an interesting point that my friend made while me and a few others were discussing LOTR and LoZ.
Would anyone even bother drawing these comparisons if LoTR was not just recently in theaters?? I've heard little of this LoZ stole ideas from LoTR until recently. Would anyone even care if the LoTR series was not fresh in their minds??

I think many more ppl are happy with the direction the new Zelda is heading than there are against it. The internet is home of the vocal minority (for every 10 ppl moaning about the new look there are 100's eagerly looking at screenshots and trying to hide a semi :))
So don't listen to the naysayers - the only reason they're bringing up LOTR is because it's such a high profile series. The ones who dislike the darker look are probably die hard fans - and would complain about any change.
Moaning for the sake of moaning and seeing what they want to see.

Ahhhh...c'mon Warbie. It was so reminiscent of Super Mario 2. Just completely out of the blue and little to do with the normal series. Just caught me by surprise.

It just didn't 'feel' like a Mario game to me (just as Sonic Adventures didn't feel like a Sonic game) Revisiting Mario 64 on the DS reminded me how vastly superior and wonderfully abstract Mario 64 was. Every inch of it was Mario. Plus the swimming was god awful and Yoshi sucked (thank god for the void levels - its saving grace :))
Mario 128 on the GC would be nice - simply cause we wouldn't have to wait so long. I'd rather it wasn't rushed in any way though (and definately don't want any 'real' world settings! no harbours, villages, or towns :/ I want floating platforms, clouds you can walk on, and enough mushrooms to make a massive omlette)

Zelda Legends (Fan Site):For the record, was the person who said that lord-of-shadow? It sounds exactly like him, and he's a friend of mine over at another forum. I've already told him that the darker look doesn't mean a less magical or any worse game, and have told him since that the trailer tends to mask the vibrancy of the world due to video compression. Looking at the screenshots shows something of a blend between Majora's Mask and The Wind Waker, I think.

Oh man... I can honestly say that I have never loved any non-living thing like I have OoT. I've beaten it 15 or so times (with one save game with everything- that's right, EVERYTHING) completed. For a good year or 2, it was the only game I'd play. When it came out, I had a crush on princess Zelda (I was nine). I actually attempted writing fanfiction for it a loooong time ago, but the game absorbed me too much to keep it up. I wanted to be Link more than anything else in the world. Honest to god... I've been looking for a game that good, and I still haven't found it (although I've cooled off, because I definitely would not like to die a virgin).
Oh, and as to the new Zelda... it looks veeeeery promising. I'm really keeping my hopes up for this .

Backwards compatability has sold it for me. Unless Xbox 2 does that as well.

Backwards compatability has sold it for me. Unless Xbox 2 does that as well.Isn't that impossible? Since the Xbox uses an Nvidia video chipset, and the Xbox2 uses an ATI chipset, wouldn't developers have to re-release their games with rewritten rendering engines? Gamecube and Revolution, on the other hand, both use ATI, so it uses the same sort of rendering techniques in both systems. This hypothesis is, of course, supported on the assumption that I don't have some sort of massive lack of knowledge on the subject of video chipsets.

I suppose it probably wouldn't matter too much. I don't have much knowledge of console video chipsets either, but I know that PC games don't only work with one type of video card. They work with all video cards. Sometimes, one video card brand will run a game slightly better, but the game still runs with any brand.

They work with all video cards. Sometimes, one video card brand will run a game slightly better, but the game still runs with any brand.I think that PC games have different rendering pathways coded for each chipset, depending on what works between chips and what works on only one chip. Hence the generally poor performance of PC games (which have to work on any chipset) compared to console games (which only have to work on one chipset).
Either way, I heard Xbox2 isn't backwards-compatible.
Also, I refuse to call it anything other than Xbox2, because Xbox 360, Xbox Next and Xenon all sound like crap.
