i installed HL2 and all of my info is correct i think.....i haven't tried to play online yet.When i run HL2........it loads.....then when i click on "new game".....it starts loading and freezes during the loadup bar.....then i get an error "Direct3d device9".......the game won't load and i am getting so frustrated.PLEASE>>>>>>>ANYBODY !!!!!!! p4 2.0/fx 5200 8x agp....dx9c.......768 pc3200......550watt ps :sniper:oyeah......m/b is asus p4v8x-x

When you get the Menu come up, Select Options, go to Video then go to Advanced...

In there lower all the settings down low but make a note of what the DirectX levels are set at and let us know what they are and if the problem still occurs.

EDIT: Also, I doubt that that is the actual error message your getting. When you get the error, write it down on a piece of paper exactly as it appears on the screen. Get back to us with what the EXACT error message is.

ok.....i got it to work now..but a quick ?......why when i riteclick on the shortcut on my desktop.....does the target line say -applaunch 220?.....at the end of the file path?

Because the target only goes to the Steam executable file and not hl2.exe or cs.exe etc.

Instead it points to Steam and then -applaunch 220 tells it that you're loading Half-Life 2.

-applaunch 320 is Deathmatch
